Default Lance's Q &A: with Rob Rang

Q&A with Rob Rang from NFLDraftScout.com

Rob Rang is one of the head honchos at NFLDraftScout.com which has recently partnered up with CBS Sportsline to provide them draft content. I had a chance to pick his brain about this year's draft and here are some of his early thoughts.
Quote:
he Z-Report: One of the players that the Houston Texans could potentially look at with the 15th pick is USC outside linebacker Brian Cushing. My question to you is whether you believe he can drop down from OLB to a rush end position on 3rd downs and be an effective pass rusher opposite Mario Williams?

Rob Rang: I do. I was impressed with Cushing throughout the year and even more so this week in Mobile. He isn't explosive off the snap, but has enough speed to get the tackle leaning outside and has the upper body strength and lower agility to redirect his charge inside. His time spent at defensive end at USC makes him one of few OLBs with legitimate pass rush technique and experience. His versatility makes him a candidate for several teams in the 10-20 range, including Houston.

I think Cushing has been a good LB at USC and should be a good pro. But to suggest that a guy who has all of 8.5 sacks in 4 years projects as a rush end, and worthy of a mid 1st round pick, is a really big reach.

That a player such as Cushing is even considered as a 1st round selection indicates how weak this draft is. Not to bash Cushing, who reminds me of the Eagles MLB Stewart Bradley. He'd be a good pickup in the 2nd round, but the Texans need to catch some luck and hope an impact defender falls to #15.

Brown was a reach. Trade back or not, he isn't, nor was he, a first round talent.

But that is beside the point of this thread. Carry on.
