As a DC of a 3-4 defense he was top notch in Pittsburgh I think and was pretty much the architect of the zone blitz scheme.. IIRC, the Pack runs a 4-3, so unless they are going to change I doubt he would be a good selection.

Whoa! Dick LeBeau is the architect of the zone blitz. I like Dom as a DC, but nobody, and I mean nobody, is better than LeBeau!

Capers has had success everywhere he's been as a DC. That includes Miami - his first stop after being fired as Texans HC. In his first year there (2006), the Dolphins D finished 4th in the league in yards allowed, after finishing 18th the year before. Admittedly, things went south in '07, but I think when you look at Saban leaving, and Cam Cameron taking over, Capers really wasn't the problem. Prior to the Texans, he was the DC for Jacksonville under Coughlin, and had another top 5 defense in the first of his two years there (12th in the other).

Capers is a good (not great) defensive coordinator who I think would be a credit to most NFL coaching staffs - as long as there's no danger of him ever becoming a head coach.

Edit: Both Jacksonville and Miami were 4-3 defenses when he was coordinating them.

Interesting. Some coaches are great coodinators and horrible head coaches. Capers is one of those guys. I wouldn't mind seeing him as DC in NY however the issue here is Capers is a 3-4 coach and the Giants have been a 4-3 team.

Capers does have history with Coughlin and Julius Peppers wants to go to a team running a 3-4 scheme. Hmmm.

LeBeau was the architect of the zone blitz BUT Dom was a very early adopter. He used the zone blitz as part of the defense used by his Panthers team back in the mid-90's at about the same time that LeBeau came up with it in Pittsburgh.

Oddly enough, Dom was the DC at Pittsburgh before LeBeau's first stint as a DC there.

in 2006, Saban was in charge of the defense. after Saban left, Capers was given full responsibility for the defense, and they became the absolutely worst defense Miami has ever had.

True, but wasn't that because they were still trying to run a 4-3? I heard it referred to as a 3-4/4-3 hybrid. I have never seen a system that was half and half work. Dom was a good DC ~ 10 years ago. The question is.....is he still one or has the game passed him by.
