It's a wise decision if you ask me. If he plans on going to the NFL as a QB, he needs to learn how to be efficient in the pocket.

There was no question about this one. He knows he's not the "protypical QB" for the nfl, wasn't going to be a top 10 pick. He's a true team leader, loves his coach, school, teammates and college football. If he goes out and wins another national title, he'll have a college legacy that is hard to match. I don't see him earning the big bucks on draft day this year... maybe not even next year. He's not about money at all anyways, but about love of the game and life.

At an even more practical level, the reality is he may never become an NFL player at all. Sure he will get drafted and somebody will try him at one or more positions, but he may not translate. Going back to college lets him not just play but star in football for at least one more year. Why not run the certain string out before heading off to the gamble?

I think he's utterly foolish to remain in college another year because of the risk of severe injury to himself, especially given that he's a running QB who is not in the habit of avoiding contact from what I understand.
And if he's not foolish, his parents/family are doing a great disservice to him
because of not explaing the risk of losing the millions of dollars he would risk forfeiting this upcominmg year by remaining in school if injured this fall. He's in his early 20s and needs the advice of an older adult about the benefits of financial security, for him even potentially financilin independance. And he's already won a Heisman & national championship, its time to grow-up and realign his life's priorities.

Or he's looking at an even bigger picture than you are. I understand the value of coming out for the money. I understand how to discount future income numbers to a current value, and making decisions based on that. I understand that if the first number in that string is zero, that has a relatively large impact on the NPV, but I also understand that the numbers in year 2 on forward are pretty darn important too.

When Andre Ware came out of UofH early, my belief was that he shouldn't do it. I felt that Heisman or no Heisman, his skills weren't NFL ready, and another year of college ball would improve the chances to have long, successful NFL career. I may have been wrong about Andre (clearly, he wasn't ready, but I don't know if another year would have mattered), but I feel the same about Tebow.

Also, there's a fair bit of disagreement about where Tebow would have gone in the draft. If you think he (or his representatives) didn't get some feedback from NFL sources (as opposed to draft-hacks and message boards) as to where he was likely to be drafted, you're wrong. It could well be that if he got good info that he believed that there was a good chance he'd be a 3rd round pick. Kevin Smith - the first pick in the third round of the 2008 draft got a contract that was worth about $1.8MM, and included a bonus of less than $700,000. If that's the kind of economics Tebow believed he was looking at, he's taking a pretty good risk from my standpoint.

Tebow isn't going to get any more NFL ready by going back to school another year. He has maxed out everything he will learn in that offense.

This is a great decision for him. Per his NFL potential, he should have come out this year. Why waste another year when you aren't going to increase your NFL stock at all?

But the fact is, he may not make it as a NFL QB anyway. He could, but there is precedent to suggest that he will not. Why not go back for your last year and try to improve upon your legacy? That way, even if you don't cut it as a NFL player, you won't have any regrets.

And more importantly, by staying in college, he may be more accessible and this is good because more people may get to spend 5 minutes in his company and be able to become better people because of spending time in his company.

Or maybe he enjoys college a lot. And if he gets injured he'll graduate and go on into the real world and become successful.

Tebow needs to stay in school because he is not NFL ready, not at the QB position. I'm not even sure he can become NFL ready at QB under Urban Meyer and that offense. Now you put that guy at TE in practice for a year and you may have yourself an NFL player.

"The real world", yea that's what I'm talking about here. The one that requires a buck for anything and everything you want to do in that world. Take the money now kid and if you get injured this fall and can't play football anymore, go back to school and get that degree. Get a Masters. Hell, stay there for 6 or 7 years and get a PHD, whatever because you're rich and you won't have to worry about it. Or play in the league for 10 years and go back and get that degree.
If you don't get hurt (which you probably won't), its a win-win because you've got the money and you're still playing football. But you might get hurt, that's the point here since you've got so much to lose.

I think his NFL stock could rise. Tebow is not guaranteed millions in the NFL. He's not a first round draft pick. He might not even be drafted in the first day! I'm not sure how much rookies who are 3rd-7th round picks make, but it's a helluva a lot lower than being drafted in the 1st round.

If I were in his situation I might do the same thing he is. You're the big man on campus. You're having the time of your life. You have the chance to go down as arguably the most successful QB in college football history if you win a 3rd national title. I'm pretty sure Tebow won't be lacking of a job or money should he have a career ending injury at Florida.

Like one minute he's performing open heart surgery in Tahiti and the next minute he's telling the patient to get up and get him a Mai Tai. I mean, how much more perfect can ESPN make the guy?
