Mario Williams has a 10 page article in the Feb. 2009 edition of Muscle & Fitness on news stands now. Everyone go out and pick a copy it's a good write up with some good pics!

Thanks Hook'er.
Here's the article: http://www.muscleandfitness.com/features/243 ***************************** looks like Mario Williams has baby seals connecting his shoulders to his elbows. That's the first thing you notice when you're standing on the sideline at Reliant Stadium before the Texans game against the Bengals. Maybe it's because his shoulder pads are too small or his No. 90 jersey is too tight, but as Williams goes about his pregame routine, the muscles in his arms look huge, like they belong to a larger man -- which, considering that Williams is 6'7" and weighs 290 pounds, seems almost impossible. It's as if he tore off the waterboy's legs and jammed them into his rotator cuffs. Slowly, as the stadium seats fill, the buzz in the air grows louder and the contact on the field gets harder: swim moves, bull rushes, spin moves -- they all take place in one-second bursts. Each time Williams lines up opposite a teammate, the intensity heightens. In between hits, he looks across the field at the visiting Bengals, up at the stands, then at the sky. When his eyes return to the turf, his head starts to bob ever so slightly, and you can see the competitive fire building. Williams lit this flame a few hours ago and it's starting to blaze. "I try to stay as relaxed as possible heading into a game," Williams says. "I like to listen to slow stuff like R&B to keep me calm. Then before we go out onto the field, I'll put in some hip-hop to get a little blood flowing. But once we're out there, the energy just takes over." Last edited by nunusguy; 12-31-2008 at 01:55 PM. |

Mario tries to look fierce, but he just can't do it with such a kind, and friendly face.

When Mario's carreer finally comes to an end, we're going to be more happy and proud that he was a Texan than we can even imagine right now. I hope he has a long carrer and becomes the Texans first Hall of Famer. He is an excellant face for this franchise, and I'm actually honored to call this young man a Houston Texan.

Agreed on everything except that AJ may have something to say about 1st in a way too early Canton discussion. Not just in Houston, but around the country, folks are starting to discuss or even act like it is obvious AJ is the best WR in the league right now.
Totally off topic tidbit for the day: 5 years with Texans HWWNBN - 9 games over 250 passing yards 2 years with Texans Schaub - 13 games over 250 passing yards That is not really aimed at HWWNBN but at the improvement Kubiak & Schaub have brought.

is HWWNBN = he who will not be named?
if so, thanks for the that. The only time i laughed so hard on here was during the 1st Jax game's thread. Immediately after the coin toss, one member posted "Who the hell calls tails!!!!" Fortunately, i wasn't swallowing anything while i read that.

pads have gotten remarkably smaller for linemen over the years...gives O-linemen less to grab on to. My old pee-wee league pads were bigger than those as well...much bigger.

watching mario try all season makes me want to make a joke about that, but i can't figure one out. i almost had one about snapped elastics, but with the space age materials reebok uses nowadays, i don't know if it'd work.

They had something about that on Bob Costas' or Bryant Gumbel's show. It's not like the old days when guys wanted good pads to withstand all the rigors of playing hard, players these days want the smallest pads available so they can be faster. They mentioned DEs often wear WR's pads and shoes, which has led to an increase in injuries as they've traded protection for a slight edge on speed.
