How far will this team go in 2005? For starters, it would have to be a long
way!! We are in the bottom 5 in the AFC in both total defense and total offense-- only 1 team (Colts) is going to the playoffs with a worse scoring defense-- we are in the bottom 5 in offensive scoring-- no players in the top 30 in scoring or sacks,etc.etc. I have a difficult time believing that this team--all of a sudden-- is going to leap by so many other teams to the playoffs when we are still so close to the bottom. Then, you factor in the OL problems and lack of pass rush and have to wonder if these major problems will require new players or will existing players step up. Three years. What part of this team has progressed to the point that-next year--it will be play off caliber? The Browns game was not a good sign of things to come, nor a testimony of three years of progression. Sure, we won 2 more games but does that bode well for what it will take next year to win? I sure hope so!!!

The NFL is all about Parity. In reality there is very little difference between the top teams and the bottom teams. You see teams rise and fall very quickly. If you make a couple of good offseason acquistions, stay lucky on the injury front you go to the head of the class VERY quickly.
Look at San Diego and Pittsburgh from last year. The biggest mistake you can make is not stay the course, you do not want to get on the browns merry go round. |

I guess you can thank the Texans for giving your team a longer vacation. Next year the Jaguars first goal is to beat the Texans.

In 2005, the Texans will host the Cardinals, Rams, Browns, Steelers and Chiefs in addition to their division opponents. Houston will travel to Seattle, San Francisco, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Buffalo in addition to their division trips.
Home Cards - Loss Rams - Win (close game) Browns - Loss Steelers - Win Chiefs - Loss Colts - Win Jags - Win Titans - Loss Away Seahawks - Win 49'ers - Loss Ravens - Loss Bengals - Loss Bills - Loss Colts - Win Jags - Loss Titans - Loss 6 wins next year. It's all about parity, right? We beat the Steelers and the Colts TWICE, but those are 3 of our 6 wins next year. DD rushes for 2000 yds. and has like 800 in receptions, but we lose 10 games and Carr breaks his own sack record because we're stuck with the linemen we've got. Capers says all year that we will do better the next year, because we're stuck with him too, lol. AJ leads the league in ypc, but has 2 catches per game and our leading sack man is Peek, who rarely gets to play. I say we either get Michael Vick or start teaching DD to play QB. Carr can just take a break until we find some real protection. Hey, you can't expect me to make serious predictions right now. Geeez. |

Logic eek: would seem to indicate these posters would be predicting 7-9 or 6-10. |

Being from cincinnati, i can guarantee that many of you will be suprised that the bengals will probably beat the texans next season, again. Some of these projections people are making are not really based on reality, just like people still think the texans should have beaten the chargers because they are a "bad" team.

Bob McNair is one smart man. He believes in stability. Whenever I hear McNair, Casserly, or especially Capers talk about other teams, the Steelers is the team that's mentioned the most. |

Excellent post. What do most of these people want on our 3rd year? I want our team to win as much a the rest of you but that will take time....heck I waited for the oilers for several years. As long as we make progress we should be OK, the OL should be a priority then the DL a wide receiver should help some too (the Williams kid from USC would be fine). |

come on now all the optimism and you have to say something like that ?? Well we have the youngest team in the league right now, so they can only get better. And i do think we were 1 or 2 D-Line/O-Line men away from beign a play-off team !

TrueFan, it makes us 9-7 and 2nd in the division. That being said, I'm not here to start a flame war. Both the Texans and the Jags showed improvement over 2003 and that is all you can hope for. An anomoly like what the Chargers did this year cannot be expected. Both teams will be improved next year (youth growing up) but I still don't see either team challenging the Dolts for at least one more year. Of the 2 teams, I honestly would have to give the Jags the best chance of making the playoffs next year. Darius is the only major contributor not under contract right now and the Jags expect to be around 35 million under the cap when free agency starts (I know, I know, we owe it all to you guys
). Anyway, good luck next year and enjoy bragging rights for now.

My expectation for the Texans is 9 wins next year. I don't know who we will beat or who we will lose to, but I think 9 wins is realistic and I will NOT be happy with anything less. .500 will not be good enough next year. I know we will win some we shouldn't and lose some we shouldn't and some opponents will be better or worse than what we expect them to be, but I expect them to do what it takes in the offseason and get 9 or more wins next year. 9 wins and no playoffs or 9 wins and playoffs. I'm not worried about that, but I think in the fourth year it's time to have a winning season and start knocking on that door.

if we make the play-offs that'll be great, but just to see a little improvment would be fine to. I would just like for us to be favored once and actually win the game. If we make play-offs i'll love this team, if we only win 1 game next season i'll love this team. So i just hope for the best, cause thats all as a fan i can do !

I heard a NFL player say once long ago on a TV interview that any year he had to buy a ticket to the Super Bowl it was not a successful year to him.
I hope that's the attitude of the Texans. Get into the playoffs next year and get into the SB! |

A little perspective here folks--the Patriots lost to the Dolphins, that's right the drafting ahead of the Browns Dolphins. Did that expose them as a miserable team with all sorts of deficiencies? Sheesh--reality is somewhere between the exhilaration after the Jags win and the freakin chicken little doom and gloom of the Browns loss.
