Default Mock III

updated my Mock draft last night after the Superbowl (correct drafting order) and decided to throw in a couple trades involving the Texans, not that I really think this is going to happen (how would I know?) but merely an exercise in a theory that would address the Texans #1 need- protecting the franchise

1. 49ers - Aaron Rogers QB, CAL.
This draft is hard to figure right out of the gate, 49er's need a QB, flip a coin between Rogers & Smith (Rogers best Mechanics or Smith best leadership)
2. Phins - Alex Smith QB, Utah.
Which ever of the two QB's is left or could deal pick to Arizona or Raiders & take a RB later.
3. Browns - Alex Barron OT, Florida State.
Cleveland has been begging for a left tackle, finally they fill this need.
4. Bears - Mike Williams WR, USC.
Freakish, franchise possession WR too talented to pass up unless another team makes an offer that can't be refused then take Braylon Edwards WR later.
5. Bucs - Cadillac Williams RB, Auburn.
My favorite back in this draft, reminds me of Curtis Martin, can't miss prospect, will have their choice of runningbacks, Cadillac is a leader & dislplays great character.
6. Titans - Derrick Johnson LB, Texas.
Defensive playmaker with speed & athleticism, a no brainer (what would the Titans want this year to trade down? a lot, forget about it Texans.
7. Raiders - Ronnie Brown RB, Auburn.
Strong, hard running Ronnie becomes Al's franchise back, imagine Gallery pulling & leading for Brown what a dominant running attack needs, what the Raiders have been lacking.
8. Cardinals - Cedric Benson RB, Texas.
The last of the big 3 RB's off the board all in the top 10, walks into great situation with Green.
9. Redskins - Marcus Spears DT, LSU
By draft day it becomes apparent the best Defensive Linemen is Marcus Spears, this should solidify a very good defense for Gibbs.
10. Lions - Antrell Rolle CB, Miami.
Mariucci wants a big physical QB how can he possibly pass up Rolle for a Safety?
11. Cowboys - Adam "PAC MAN" Jones CB, West Virgina.
Cowboys will address secondary need here with Spears off the board.
12. Chargers (via Giants) - Braylon Edwards WR, Michigan.
Stockpiling weapons, can you say tri-fecta with Tomlinson, Gates & Edwards.
13. Saints (via Texans) - Thomas Davis S/OLB Georgia.
The playmaker the Saints covet, very verstile & physical enough to play linebacker.
14. Panthers - Jammal Brown OT, Oklahoma.
Draft for need, Jammal is verstile & can play many positions tackle or guard.
15. Chiefs - Marlin Jackson CB, Michigan.
Secondary is a weakness, this guy is a physical shutdown corner ready to start in the NFL.
16. Texans (via Saints) - Heath Miller TE, Virgina.
Kill two birds with one stone, Carr gets better protection & offensive weapon at the same time.
17. Bengals - Anttaj Hawthorne DT, Wisconsin.
Hot position & the best of the lot, which is what the Bengals need.
18. Vikings - Shawn Cody DT, USC.
Will have a great combine, another addition to the Viking DL with fellow USC alum Udeze.
19. Rams - Elton Brown OG, Virginia.
Slips to the Rams because of some injury concerns, but fullfills their biggest need on the OL.
20. Cowboys (via Bills) - Erasmus James DE Wisconsin.
When healthy provides a fierce pass rush & requires double teams.
21. Jaguars - Dan Cody DE, Oklahoma.
Del Rio hustle type, gives the Jags a non-stop motor on the defensive line with speed who can also cover the TE in space.
22. Ravens - Mark Clayton WR, Oklahoma.
A consistant weapon at WR is needed, the best after Braylon a pure #2.
23. Seahawks - Brandon Browner CB, Oregon State.
Familar with this youngsters package of skills in the NW, need secondary assistance.
24. Packers - Charlie Frye QB, Akron.
Farve out of the league, Charlie into the frying pan the Packers will begin to rebuild now.
25. Broncos - Travis Johnson DT, FSU.
Best pass rushing DT which works with the smaller Denver line @ altitude, high speed.
26. Texans (via Jets) - David Baas C, Michigan.
Texans find Carr more protection & solidify the offensive line in the process.
27. Falcons - David Pollack DE, Georgia.
Atlanta stays home, & Pollack becomes the leader of Mora's defense.
28. Chargers - Matt Roth DE/OLB, Iowa.
Verstiltiy for Marty, can play OLB in 3-4 & pass rush QB, a Babin clone.
29. Colts - Channing Crowder MLB, Florida.
Colts are soft....only in the middle, until now, some call him mini Ray.
30. Steelers - Justin Miller CB, Clemson.
Qualtiy, starting CB with speed & size, revitalizes aging Steeler secondary.
31. Eagles - Troy Williamson WR, South Carolina.
Makes a big push up the boards draft day into the 1st round.
32. Patriots - Carlos Rogers CB, Georgia.
The rich get richer, not fair still a great CB available @ the end of the 1st rd.

I don't see us taking anything but another defensive player either D line or Corner. D line was a problem before we acquired Robaire Smith. With Walker getting up there in age and no real emerging impact player on the D line that I saw last year that can fill his spot I say we draft a D - Lineman in the first round.
If there is no quality D Lineman at 13 (hard to believe with alot of the earlier teams needing more offensive than defense.) Then i say we go with the best D back available. Marcus Coleman made the nice switch to free safety where Matt Stevens before seemed to miss open field tackles. However Marcus Coleman is aging and Glenn Earl Did well but nothing stellar. Dunta Robinson was a big impact at corner last year and was robbed out of Rookie of the Year only because Vilmas team made the playoffs. Id love to see us get a hard hitting Strong Safety that can help in run support, where at times we looked terrible (minnesota game comes to mind) A hard hiting safety would also make some wideouts rethink going over the middle after a few hits. Caroline did that with the eagles in the championship game 2 years ago and went on to the superbowl.

Offensive Line Can come later in the round the main problem with our O line is that once Carr was sacked once they instantly each worried about their man and didnt help each other out. as the unit Gels, that will work itself out. you can always find a late round big body tackle who can be a quality contributor.

cannot post from the Huddle since its a pay site but Drew just came out with a new Mock which seems pretty close to me. as far as the Texans pick @ #13 he sees them drafting- Thomas Davis Georgia, Safety saying he will impact the middle of the field. he did show much better speed at his Pro Day-
Davis (6-0, 227) ran his 40s in 4.43 and 4.44.

other highlights-
  • #3 Merriman
  • #4 Williams
  • #5 Edwards
  • #6 M Williams
  • #7 Johnson
  • #14 Benson
  • #19 Williamson
  • #21 Rogers
  • #25 Castillo

I'd be kinda confused if we passed on Benson, Williamson, and Carlos Rogers for Davis...If we put Davis at ILB, I think it would be a good pick, but if we leave him at safety, I might be a little disappointed...

I understand but I think it opens a vault of options for the defense too numerous to list but one would be to start him at FS move Coleman back to CB and Glenn to nickle. his strength & conditioning will improve as a Pro then he could start @ ILB position. with his size and speed he would help our pass rush in Safety blitzs, add another element of intimidation to our secondary as well as depth in case of injurys, a luxury none of us should forget as an expansion franchise three years removed.

I'm not saying he is the one just one of a few that should be evaluated to become a Texan.

Man I am so sick of everyone talkin about Williamson. We do not need to draft a wideout in the first round. It is a waste of a pick when we have so many other holes. Does anyone realize that we can get Reggie Brown who IMO will be better than Williamson as a pro in the second. Hell we can even get another track guy who returns kicks in the third in Jerome Mathis who is faster than Williamson.
