(anyone else see a pattern) Someone had the audacity to say he is a good cover guy and not meant to cover the deep play. Well really, why is it when teams...especially the colts look for this guy. Ok think of it this way please for a second.
If all you had were players like Petey or a little better,
would you be asking them to cover Marvin Harrison one on one?

We run very little zone in our defensive schemes. The majority in Man or some form of Man with over the top help. We do not have the players to do this. Few teams do! I guarantee if we find a defensive coodinatoor that will bring in an aggressive cover 2 scheme, our talent limited defense will start looking like it has more talent than it does!

He shouldnt have given him the cushion on td play and and crucial third down with 3:00 to go. Jammed him or stepped in fromt of him and let saftey cover behind him. at the point in the gae the big play would have saved more time.

Just a note. The pass was really behind Marvin, and should have been tipped/stripped by the corner. If Manning leads Marvin the corner has no chance, and we have to hope the linebacker or safety and break up the catch, but when its thrown behind the WR the corner has a chance for the pick/deflection/strip. But it didnt happen.

He's not allowed to make the call to jam / not jam on his own, that's the DC's call, based on the scheme.

Yep, with the Texans Free Safety = Free to score on at will.

I'm also w/ Vinny on that underneath route...the Texans had only 2 guys in position to cover three receivers and the route was 'almost' an illegal pick. Maybe there is a team out there with the horses to run Richard Smith's "scheme"...THIS team isn't it.

There is no jam in a man defense.
Thats more of a press, yea you try to jam in on the line but you better be good enough to stay with him once he releases. And Petey isn't thats why he needs the cushion. But if we ever went to some form of cover 2.

Then he could jam him with wreckless abandonment for the first five yards, if he releases then he enters the zone of the linebacker or safety and if he goes deep the safety should be in a good position to either break it up or pick it off. And if its a quick out or in or slant, the corner is right there to break it up, pick it off or make the tackle for a lot less yards.

On the Harrison TD, Faggins could have intercepted if he had good intincts, there was a pass similar last night in the Cowboys game but the difference was Terrence Newman intercepted the pass because he has the instinct and talent that Faggins obviously lacks.
