Default Chronicles Justice "quantifies" size of Smith & Kubiaks FA mistakes

Now about those personnel mistakes.

For instance, Anthony Weaver, Jacques Reeves and Ahman Green.

Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith committed almost $40 million to three players who have made only a minimal contribution to the Texans.

Wait, there’s more. Rosevelt Colvin and Chris Brown each will get around $1 million this season, and neither will set foot on the field.

And there’s Matt Schaub. He has started and finished just 13 of 25 games since the Texans sent a pair of second-round picks to the Falcons for him. By the end of the season, he will have collected almost $19 million.

**************************************************
Good thing McCair is a billioniare, because the dynamic duo is putting a serious cash-burn on his capital in FA acquisitions with very little return on his investments. The possible exception may be Schaub, but the QBs durability issues may ultimatel trump any positive benefits we've got from his performance on the field.

Reeves has made a huge contribution to the Texans. Just not the kind we want though.

Our opponents should foot the bill for his salary. "Thanks for not looking back and finding the ball --- YET AGAIN --- here's a million."

This happens every single season to every single football team. It's a part of the game. This shows Kubiak and Smith aren't perfect and don't have a magic crystal ball. The key is how do they learn/react from those mistakes. Weaver? yet to see but his bags might be getting packed this offseason. Reeves? I'm giving him more time to take to the team, he's clearly shown the best ability to cover the wr than any other cb on our team. The problem is him locating the ball, this needs to be corrected during the latter half of the season and during the offseason- its on the coaches. And then Green, they took a risk b/c of his health. They knew that going in. Green's been injured and they've somewhat mitigated future losses by restructuring his contract. Colvin and Brown? I see risk/reward for signing those players to heavily be in the Texans favor. Doesn't look like they panned out but they didn't break the bank for either... these guys are NFL vets so you can't pay them rookie salaries.

The Texans current FA contract team of Rick Smith/Chris Olsen were not here for the Anthony Weaver signing which is clearly the worst signing of Kubiak's tenure. Green and Reeves have at least had SOME positives for their bills.

The Weaver signing was made when Casserly/Dan Ferens were still negotiating the contracts.

Greir has been the guy that has been over FA since our inception.

He has done a fine job.

Justice is a tool.

That said, the "big" free agent signings by this regime have not worked out. They seem to be far better at identifying guys that can outperform meager expectations than they are at identifying top talent that can play at all.

This is why I think the fans should STOP begging our team to make a ton of big FA signings!!! Imagine how badly we'd be in cap hell with nothing to show for it when we've got a team full of Weavers

Weaver has been the biggest bust out of them all. Green has been injured so thats why we have got nothing out of him. Weaver has been on the field for pretty much every game and got what 3 sacks in 3 years thats terrible for a de I don't care who you are.

It was still dumb to give Green all that money at his age.

I still go back to the bad draft history. 1st rounder Babin, 1st pick in 2nd round for Gafney, 2nd rounder for Hollings, 2nd rounder for Joppru, 3rd for Morency.

Our first picks in the expansion and NFL draft pretty much laid the road by which this franchise has traveled since its inception...

Expansion = Tony Boselli

NFL = HWSNBN

thats more or less exactly what we have had all these years...Todd Wade, Charlie Clemons, Ahman Green, Robaire Smith, Stacey Mack, Morlon Greenwood, ect...the best FA signing ever is probably Steve McKinney. In 7 years of running a franchise this is weak as hell, nothing against Steve since he did a decent job on balance.

Its pretty sad that we have to throw big FA $$ at these caliber players. We all keep waiting for the day that we can land a real "big fish" in FA but I guess that day wont come until we consistently reel in draft classes like the one we had in 06.

Mario, DeMeco, Winston, OD, Anderson....ahhh what a great draft

But sadly, the good teams pull in similar drafts consistently while we've only had one good draft top to bottom since our inception

I dunno, but maybe its more like we don't have much to pick from ? In other
words, the vast majority of the best FA prospects aren't interested in coming here because they want to sign with a playoff contender and the Texans certaily don't offer that opportunity.
