However I do think we need a new Center.....I was never on Myers bandwagon (after I saw how easily he was moved during preseason), he's too light in the pants and gets tossed around like a doll.

If anything Houston needs a new center and RG......tackles are fine.

As far as keeping our TE in to block....he's not going to be there to pick off the fat boys coming up the middle. Owens was much more helpful and keeping our QBs safe as a emergency outlet pass option when they were under pressure.......he saved them more then a few times by getting open in the middle of the field, which is why he had a big day.
Yes so Myers and Winston are the week links

guess its back to Chris white has center and give the semi rookie Rashad butler a chance to take winston spot

at least we will know where he stands

Winston is NOT a weak link on the line........that's what I'm trying to say. He's our most consistent and arguably our best lineman, he just had a bad day.....it happens.

Chris Myers sucks and we could upgrade the RG position....everybody else is pretty solid.

In my opinion Schaub has shown his true colors against a decent defense again. Sure he does well against the Lions and Bengals but put him up against the Vikings or Steelers and he stinks it up like today.

I dont understand how Sage gets labeled as a mental mistake QB when Schaub throws a pick and fumbles in 1/2 a game. Oh and Schaub led our team to 0 points today. Go team.

Has anyone heard anything definitive about his knee? Is he likely to play next week or will Sage pilot the chopper?

Can we make an all encompassing Schaub thread , kinda like the all encompassing HWWNBM thread ?

Agree'd .... false start on a Center ?!

He routinely gets pushed around .... he just doesnt have the size to play in the NFL.

But it's Matt Schaub. Don't you get it?

(Pssst! If you DO find out, let me know. I've been dying to figure it out myself)

Bottom line is that Schaub is too fragile. He's basically had just a handful of good games in the last two seasons combined. The rest he's either been lousy or hurt. Poor Sage just makes too many bone-headed mistakes. We need to draft another quarterback. That's it. Period.

Schaub needs a better running game to offset the pocket pressure in passing situations, the line can only give you four seconds or so to get rid of it when the defense knows its a pass. plain & simple the Texans have not invested enough in the backfield to help the QB, doesn't matter really if its Matt, Sage or 1st rd. draft pick Kubiak & Co. know they lack a balanced attack

Because he was injured. Make the point that he's FRAGILE, and proooobably no one will argue with you, since thus far, that's what he's been. Playing with a gimp knee was what caused the offense to stall all those times, as well as the underthrown ball and the even worse than normal mobility.

THAT'S why.

Is the answer a new QB in the draft then?? Or can any one forsee us trading for a decent QB elsewhere?

We have the makings of a very good team but there are to many frailities for us to go any further. A W yesterday would of been massive for us with the Jags losing and the Colts winning it would of helped us stay within contention. Especially when you consider we play the ravens, colts and the browns in our next 3 games. A W today could of drove us on to win all 3, its still within reach but Matt needs to be looked after in a similar way the Pats did to Cassel for his first few games until he started to gain confidence.

My 2 cents worth

Okay, while Schaub is a definite upgrade over his predecessor, he may not be the permanent answer.
The Good:
- He can go thru his progressions and usually makes his decisions quickly.
- He generally gets his throws on target so the WR can do something with them.
- He can stretch the field somewhat. But that's due more to WR playmaking than his arm strength.

The Not-So-Good:
- He tries to make throws that, frankly, he doesn't have the arm strength for.
- If the D-line gets to him early and knocks him around, he can be rattled. He's no where near as bad as his predecessor, but you can tell when he's been rattled.
- And it looks like the kid is on the fragile side.

IMHO, he'll do until someone better can be found and groomed. I think with some upgrades in the O-line, he can produce sufficient offense to get us into the playoffs.

Some of you guys are retarded. Matt's injuries are a direct result of trying to make a play when your oline cant contain pressure. Like ive said in another thread, YOU try taking a hit to your knee twice by an NFL dlineman. When our Oline isnt letting guys through, we have seen the numbers Schaub puts up.

When Carr had time to throw, he still sucked. When Schaub has time to throw, he is remarkable. It is the Oline to blame - not Schaub.

1-7. Whoop-dee-doo. I don't think that qualifies them as a great deal better than 0-7.

And to that I would say, "And we lost to the JAGS?!?!?"

I mean, this could have e-a-s-i-l-y been a playoff year for us with the way the AFC teams are playing.

In the NFC, things are tougher this season. But the AFC is wide open except for two teams: Steelers and Titans. And I think the Titans are about to start a free-fall. Yeah, they beat Green Bay...by a FG. Once the bloom comes off that rose, they'll look like the Cowboys IMO.

So the Steelers are probably the only real powerhouse in the AFC right now.

This could have been a playoff year, if only as a wild card team. It still could have happened. But with how our two QBs are doing--and the defense--we can't gain ground. Unless we can schedule the Bengals every weekend.

Default Re: Schaub

I read this thread and wonder how many people are actually looking at games realistically and not as a Texans fan.

Schaub throws the ball up for grabs atleast 2 times a game. The Bengals game was the ONLY game he hasn't done that. I am not talking about this season, I am talking about his entire time here. He either tries too hard or just doesn't value the ball. Either way, this is who Matt Schaub is.

Everyone has the Matt vs Sage debate. I think they are very close to the same player. They both turn the ball over too much, Sage is alot more durable, but with all of his experience you would think he would not turn the ball over so much. Unless the Texans are going to become a run-heavy team with a QB that is a manager, they are going to have to do something about that position in the off-season.
