Default KC's Larry Johnson: More Off-Field Issues

Johnson, who was benched for Sunday’s game for violating team rules, may face league punishment for a separate incident, ESPN.com reports. Sources say Johnson was involved in a physical altercation with a woman at a Kansas City nightclub during the Chiefs’ bye week.

Recommendation: Johnson is already facing a December court date for yet another assault allegation. This the fourth alleged incident of Johnson’s NFL career and the second of 2008. The past three have all involved a nightclub and a female accuser. To the NFL, that represents a disturbing pattern of behavior, and sources report that Johnson will face a league-imposed suspension for his involvement in the incidents. “It’s just a matter of for how long,” one source said. Kolby Smith saw the bulk of the work on Sunday with Johnson out and would likely continue as the starter if Johnson is suspended. Jamaal Charles will rotate in as a change-of-pace runner.

That KC team is just imploding. Why didn't they move Tony Gonzales?

I think they waited a little too long, or he at least asked a little too late. I first heard about him wanting to be traded like 4 days before the deadline. Maybe teams were reluctant because of what KC was asking for. Either way thought its kind of a shame for him. He deserved to go somewhere that had a chance at winning.

Because their GM is hardheaded when negotiating with other teams for trades and Gonzales himself should be blamed also, he turned down deals to play in Buffalo or Atlanta.

PACKERS THOUGHT THEY HAD A DEAL FOR GONZALEZ

Wow.

Not only were the Packers serious players for Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, but the Pack also thought they had a deal.

According to Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal, the Packers drew up the paperwork that would have sent a third-round pick to Kansas City for Gonzalez, only to have the Chiefs back out ten minutes before the 4:00 p.m. EDT trading deadline, and demand a second-round pick.

Per Wilde, the Packers and Eagles offered a third-round selection for Gonzalez, and the Giants tendered a fourth-rounder.

The Falcons and Bills were willing to do more, but Gonzalez wanted to play for neither team.

Currently, the Falcons and the Bills have better records than the Packers and the Eagles. In either Atlanta or Buffalo, Gonzalez would have been greeted as a superhero, and we’re baffled by his reluctance to play for either team.

We’re even more baffled by the misguided decision by Carl Peterson to pull a last-second power play. An unrestrained ego is a dangerous thing, and Peterson now must deal with a locker room full of players who realize that, if King Carl is willing to screw Gonzalez, any of them could get equal or lesser treatment.
