Default Blank brain damaged.. wants Vick back in NFL.

Did the drop in Home Depot Stock cause Arthur Blank to have a stroke, and to make this statement??. or does the Falcons owner have another motive, and is trying to get on the "good side" of many Atlanta voters, who just LOVE Vick, and think he was railroaded.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank told ESPN.com he wants to see imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick back in the National Football League but not in Atlanta.

“He’s written me and I’ve answered him,” Blank told ESPN.com. “I certainly wish Michael well in the future. I believe in second chances. I believe in third chances. That doesn’t mean I believe in forever chances. But I do believe he’s capable of redemption and learning from his mistakes.”

“We’re committed to Matt Ryan,” Blank also told ESPN.com. “Even before his early success, we were committed to Matt Ryan. We made that decision when we drafted him. When you select someone in the draft at that level and pay him what we’re paying him, you expect him to be successful and you expect him to be a team leader.”

http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sp...k_falcons.html

Or does he want a new stadium... for the Falcons and the soccer team, because the Georgia Dome IS a dump...

Falcons owner Arthur Blank announced late Tuesday afternoon that he will seek a Major League Soccer franchise for Atlanta.

The AMB Group, Blank’s management and investment company, submitted a bid in time for Wednesday’s expansion deadline. Blank and league officials wouldn’t comment on possible sites, although Cobb and, to a lesser extent, Gwinnett counties are considered front-runners.

Filing this application represents an important next step as we continue to explore the possibility of bringing major league soccer to fans throughout metro atlanta,” AMB spokesman Brian Farley said in a statement. “We’re also looking at how best to create a sports-and-entertainment center that can not only serve as a premier soccer destination, but also a community resource for soccer enthusiasts at various levels of play throughout the region.”

Major League Soccer, founded in 1996, has 14 teams spread from New York to Los Angeles. The league will add teams in Seattle and Philadelphia in 2009 and 2010, respectively, and plans further expansion by 2012.

A 20,000-seat stadium, along with land, parking and other amenities, could add an additional $80 million to the package. Public money would likely become part of any financing mix. Stadium naming rights could help defray the cost.

No way.
The slightest breeze and the whistling sound coming from his tush would cause all sorts of confusion on the field.

I think Koolaid Time nailed it. Blank is positioning himself for something. He's saying the 'right' things for the locals. Maybe to get any value for Vick and probably to butter up taxpayers for a new crib. These owners will say anything and kiss anyone's butt if they can make a buck off it.

I think he is just trying to lightly and respectfully address an issue that is still very sensitive to many Atlanta Falcon fans. Some fans want him back to this day.

No one is going to trade for Vick and his current deal. Didn't Atlanta already release him from the team anyway? Either way, they are just trying to softshoe and pointing to Matt Ryan as the new direction....which is a helluva lot easier due to the way Matt Ryan is playing. They don't ask him to do a whole lot, but when they have let him open it up and throw downfield, he has had a lot of success. What a great pick by Atlanta. I thought he was pretty good but I thought it would take a year or two in Atlanta for Ryan to have success. 4-2 atop the division looks pretty good for the rook.

Didn't Blank sue Vick for remaining money on the contract, win, and get said money back? Wouldn't that mean Vick is just an FA? He'll play again (maybe), but I don't think people are going to take his accuracy issues lightly. I don't know if he could play the kind of football that Atlanta likes to play now (Lots of pocket passing, with a running back to take the load of carries).

But again, that guy is a running back (or WR) who can throw sometimes. He barely posted career passer rating over 50% and rushed for over 1,000 yards. Anyway, I don't see what Blank's angle is unless he just generally wants to see the guy succeed (even though he is a knucklehead), just because he's a masochist (or something I don't know).

And there's no telling what his personality will be like after a prison stint.

EDIT: Rotoworld sez: He's signed until 2013.

EDIT1:

My take is that Blank is trying to "make" Vick a valuable commodity.............but NOT for the NFL. Remember the likely removal of the cap by the end of the present CBA period?........the upcoming uncapped year?..............and the new football league [UFL] scheduled to begin next year? How is this important? It is fact that the UFL commissioner has already made it know that the UFL will be targeting Vick as their premiere player. Blank does not want him back in Atlanta and his NFL value is somewhat dismal at this time. Blank wants to artificially pump up the appearance of Vick's value to the NFL in order to force the UFL to bump any offer made for the "trophy" player they seek.

LMAO! Maybe he'd be better off on a car hood serving as a deer warning whistle.

I don't know, but I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He is trying to be supportive of Vick but said that he doesn't want him back in Atlanta. What's wrong with that statement?

The Falcons still have his rights. He is listed as suspended on their website. Link

So Vick can't sign with any NFL team without their permission, i.e. a trade. That said, if he comes off suspension then they will have to honor his contract unless they can trade him and there is no way they are going to pay him so other teams would just wait for him to be released--that and nobody is going to want his current contract.
