Default Ben Roethlisberger is being sacked like he's David **** in 2002

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shu...urn=nfl,110358
Quote:
It's not a big secret that the Steelers offensive line had a few problems protecting Ben Roethlisberger (much like the Titanic had a few problems with taking on water) this past Sunday, but if you want to put in perspective just how bad the problems in Pittsburgh could be, Pat Kirwan of NFL.com has a stat for you.

If you remember when David Carr was sacked 76 times on the expansion Houston Texans in 2002, then you'll recognize the situation: Pittsburgh has given up 14 sacks in three games, an average of 4.7 per game, which puts them on a pace to allow 75 sacks.

Holy Hamburger Helper gloves (I believe I stole that line from Skeets). Obviously, the Eagles helped to highlight some problems the Steelers have in pass protection, but they're in 2002 David Carr territory? I'm frightened for Large Benjamin. By Week 12, that kind of punishment will make Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident feel like he just ordered the #9 at Sweaty Cinnamon's Sensual Massage Parlor.

But wait, it gets worse:

What makes the Steelers' situation worse than the '02 Texans' is the number of other hits taken by Roethlisberger -- after he throws the ball or is tackled after scrambling past the line of scrimmage to avoid the sack.

What scares me is that we only got 2 of those 14 sacks--both of them by Williams.

76 sacks is 28 less than the record for sacks given up in a season (although spread over 2 QB's)...

And how to disguise blitzes and fake blitzes so that the offense doesn't know what's coming.

Disgusing a blitz has a lot to do with the players...

That's why some QB's are better at play fakes than others...

The guys on the field have to sell it...

Yeah, but Ben didn't have to throw much against the Texans. Given the drubbing and that the Texans were playing from behind, it was stunning to get 2 full boogie sacks.

It was at that point I thought the Steelers pass blocking was in trouble. I had no idea how bad of trouble until the Eagles game....an away game for the Steelers.

Call it, defensive scheme adjustments, or what ever else you want to call it.

Not if it's the wrong call or scheme. Is dropping Weaver, TJ or Mario into coverage the right call? Not to me it isn't

Bouncing Mario along the Dline to "pick his *****" looked promissing as long as he's rushing the passer on freakin 3rd downs.

Some teams do it, but it is usually only productive when you have an excellent pass rushing OLB like Harrison for Pittsburgh. Doing it with Greenwood rushing is damn near absurd. Even more teams realize sending Strahan, Allen, Osiumenyura (wtf?) or Freeney at the QB is their highest potential. Let the other team scheme for the best player and then scheme something to take advantage of the weakness created elsewhere. So I am not totally against the idea, but with our personnel it is dumb.
