Pittsburgh just released him.

This article indicates that he could be a good short yardage specialist at RB. I don't know anything about him except for what the article says, but it indicates that he's been fairly effective when given a chance. His poor combine times seem to be a result of him having been out a year & being out of shape. Could he be a sleeper?

Anyone know what style of runner he is? Given our pathetic stable of running backs thus far, would he be worth a look?

I liked him at Minnesota. Think of Marian Barber, he is in that mold. Not quite as physical, and a step or two faster. But still a between the tackles guy. I would love to see him in a Texans uniform.

At this point , your dog spot is worth a look.

Russell is what Jerry Glanville described as a "boola-boola" back. He can't block, catch out of the backfield, or help on special teams. And, Russell isn't good enough to carry the load as a #1 RB. That's why he wasn't drafted and that's why he's out of a job, now.

BTW, until Russell or any out of work player gets a tryout with the Texans, these threads belong in the NFL forum.
