He may win 9-10 games a year, but is that really the goal of the UT football program? Then again it's not like any college coach's contract means that much.

I'm just wondering how much of the $25 million was put up by OU?

Here is some interesting tidbits on the awful coach Mack Brown who cant win a big game. If he does this for another ten years, I wont complain one bit:

Coaches with active streak of winning seasons
Bobby Bowden (Florida State) 28
MACK BROWN (TEXAS/NORTH CAROLINA) 15

Coaches with longest active bowl appearances
Bobby Bowden (Florida State) 23
MACK BROWN (TEXAS/NORTH CAROLINA) 13
Phillip Fulmer (Tennessee) 13

NCAA's winningest coaches: Last nine years
1. Bobby Bowden, Florida State 91-21 .822
2. MACK BROWN (TEXAS/NORTH CAROLINA) 89-22 .802
3. Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee 88-23 .793
4. Lloyd Carr, Michigan 86-24 .782
5. Bill Snyder, Kansas State 84-29 .743

Texas
Pre-Brown:
1996: 8-5
1997: 4-7
Post Brown
1998: 9-3
1999: 9-5
2000: 9-3
2001: 11-2
2002: 11-2 - First back to back 11 win seasons in school history
2003: 10-3
2004: 10-1

Big BIG Factor:

» Brown has helped Texas up its season ticket base to a school-best 63,000 in 2002, more than 23,000 more than the previous high. He also was the driving force behind the creation of the Spring Jamboree, an event that has attracted as many as 34,500 fans annually to the Orange/White spring game.

His community service programs he has instilled in Texas football is also now widely know in the Texas communities

» Since Brown took over the UT program, the Longhorns have participated in community service events that have taken his staff and dozens of student-athletes to schools, children's hospitals, parades and banquets. One event was a blood drive to help the injured students at the Texas A&M bonfire tragedy in 1999.

One more tidbit:
A Coach of the Year finalist in three of the past six seasons, Brown has led his teams to 13 consecutive winning seasons and 11 bowl games in a row.

And the Main reason he was given a ten year contract:

“Mack has helped bring back the pride in Texas football,” former Longhorns All-American and NFL great Tommy Nobis said. “Tradition is what makes the college game so exciting and Mack is doing a great job getting everyone excited about wearing the burnt orange and white and being a Longhorn again.”

Brown also quickly built two other important bridges — one with legendary former head coach Darrell Royal and the other with the important constituency of Texas high school coaches.

“Mack has done everything right from the first day he hit town,” Royal said. “He has established strong ties with the high school coaches, built a tremendous bond with the lettermen and gained unbelievable support.

The union with Royal, whom Brown idolized as a young player in high school, has been a meaningful relationship for both men. Royal regularly participates in team events and has access to an office Brown had built for him in the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletics Complex.

On offense, the Longhorns have set 23 team records and featured the school's only 3,000-yard passers (Chris Simms, 2002/Major Applewhite, 1999), 2,000-yard rusher (Ricky Williams, 1998) and 1,000-yard receivers (Roy Williams, 2002, 2003/Kwame Cavil, 1999/ Wane McGarity, 1998) in a season. UT became just the second team in NCAA Division I-A history to boast a 2,000-yard rusher and passer as well as a 1,000-yard receiver in 1998. In his career at Texas alone, Brown has become just the second head coach in NCAA Division I-A history to lead a player to a 3,000-yard passing season, a 2,000-yard rushing season and a 1,000-yard receiving season.

This man will be at Texas for as long as he wants, and considering the hole we were in before he got here, I have no objections, even if we never make it to a national title game...Give me ten wins anyday!

Why is it that the vast majority of UT fans are fine with setteling with 10 and 9 win seasons? Isn't the goal of the program to win a National Championship, or atleast a Big 12 Championship?

If y'all are fine with playing in the Holiday or Cotton Bowl, unless we get lucky in the BCS, more power to you. I am not, and think this is a bad move for the university.

THE GOAL IS NOT!!!!!!!! TO WIN 9 OR 10 GAMES, BUT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP!

Sidebar: Anybody else see the article that said that UT only graduates 34% of it football players! Even worse Miami graduates 38%!!
