Cornhushers back out of ESPN opener with Cougars - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

Way back when I was a kid growing up in midwestern Missouri (then Big Eight
country), the Nebraska Cornhuskers were feared far & wide in that part of the country . Now they are afraid to open on TV next year against the Houston Cougs, gonna play that powerhouse crew from Maine instead.

Unreal. I never thought I'd live to see the day that the Nebraska Cornhuskers ducked the Cougs. That's pretty sad. I seriously wonder if in trying to save themselves from an embarrassing loss they've instead done something that will cost them almost as much in respect around the country.

I like that and in their honor I'm going to wear the logo of the newly named "Nebraska Dodgers" as my avatar for a while. The "Dodgers" part is in yellow for obvious reasons.

They'll be incorporating more yellow in their uniforms in the upcoming year. I expect them to do a big fat yellow stripe up their backs and on top of their helmets.

I really am shocked though that they'd be this concerned about getting beat by the Cougars. I expect the Cougars to have a pretty good year next season but ducking them like this really says a lot about what the Cornhuskers think of their own program right now.

Wonder what the conditions were. Maybe concerned about another "bleacher gate"?

UT fans will be talking about "bleacher gate" 100 years from now. That was Chet Gladchuck who made the dumb decision to erect the temporary bleachers at Roberston Stadium. I, along with many other Cougars emailed him before the game urging him to move the game to the Astrodome to accomodate the fans who had already purchased tickets. It was a bad decision that I knew would draw endless criticism to UH.

Dave Maggard would not have made that same mistake.

The Game was set to be played in Reliant, so unless the BullPen is about to fall down, I would not really worry about that sort of thing in Reliant Stadium.

The bigger concern for Nebraska should be the state of their sorry football program and their head coach calling people hill-billies. If there was every a state full of hill-billies it would have to be Neb.

His "hillbilly" comment was directed towards the OU fans. And based on experience, I'd say it was dead on. A bit inappropriate...but dead on. There's no comparison between Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Remind me isn't Oklahoma and Dallas quite close? Ummm.. Well if the Hill-billies are in Oklahoma, one would have to assume that they are in Dallas considering the proximity.
