Kubiak tried to draft RBs, the one he wanted just didn't fall to us. Remember he wanted to trade up and get D-Will in his first year as HC. This past draft he wanted Forte, but the Bears took him in the 2nd. He knows the running game is hurting our team right now, but what can he do about it? FA, theres no one, at our price range, that could help us from the last two FA. He just playing with the card that was dealt to him.

I realize this is dangerously close to those "Hire Earl Campbell to coach our running backs!" posts that we all laugh at when they come up but hear me out.

Here's what he could do. We go sign Cedric Benson and then we come to a settlement with Ahman Green that pays him to stick around in those sweats that he's worn more than pads since he came here and he spends the rest of the year trying to get through to Cedric. I mean, think about it for a moment. Nobody ever questions the kind of person he is or his work ethic. He KNOWS what it takes to be a successful NFL running back and how to stay in shape. He just can't stay healthy anymore to do it. Instead we have him work off his considerable debt to Bob McNair by putting him in a position of authority over our guys and giving him a chance to do something productive for the organization that's paid him to pretty much "be hurt" for two straight years.

Soft...

Being a "warrior" in the past doesn't mean he can't be soft now.
Soft is more like Shaun Alexander.
Ahman is brittle.

Matt Forte would have been perfect fit in ZBS but until the Texans STOP trading away 2nd rd. picks its next to impossible to aquire that kind of lock @ RB unless you use a 1st rd. pick. LT was also bypassed far too long.

Right now right here I'd cut Green & bring in Shaun Alexander for at least a workout

I rather go with the younger potential in Cedric Benson. Alexander is just as wash-up as Green is. No more hags, please.

The way we blocked yesterday , Jim Brown would have a hard time getting a 100 yards .

I'm getting a sinking feeling that a light , athletic interior OL does'nt do well against big , strong DTs and NGs . We play Ngata Sunday , he's a big , quick 350 lb NG .

He wanted to, didn't solve our re-occurring RB problem that has existed for two possibly going on 3 years now. We have a RUN FIRST team, so getting some good RB's should have been top priority in this off season. There were plenty of other good backups to trade for in the off season, and others that we could have drafted as well other than just Steve Slaton. I like what Slaton should bring, but it still won't be enough when your offensive system is predicated on the run and your bread and butter in the passing game is the Play action.

I was ticked when we passed on Mendenhall, because there were a ton of Texans fans that swore we wouldn't do that if he was available and I knew that they would, because Kubiak has that ridiculous Shanahan type Ego that he can run the ball with just about anyone under their zone blocking system, but our running game has only gotten worse under Kubiak, so I'm sick of the hearing the whole line about how we couldn't afford to get a quality RB in this off season, when the fact of the matter is that Kubiak and company have had 3 off seasons now, and have yet to get us a quality RB or a quality running game under these Wali Lundi types and these banged up old "Has Been", vets that get hurt every single time they get touched.

Oh yeah. Alexander has been trying like hell to get some attention and swears up and down that all the things that were slowing him down the last couple of years are fine now.

You know, that may very well be true. He might be bouncing around waiting for his phone call like a 24 year old and be in the best shape of his life. I'm not going to say that it isn't possible.

But I will say this. Ahman Green has been in the best shape of any high-mileage 31 year old running back ever and that doesn't have anything to do with what happens to his body once the games get real. It's not how great Alexander feels that we should be paying attention to. It's what happens when a similar back with excellent health and fitness habits starts trying to perform. He breaks down easily. So will, most likely Shaun Alexander.

But what the hell, if he's a good citizen, will play for the minimum, and Bob McNair doesn't mind losing a couple more million then why not sign him. Maybe he's the guy who defies the conventional wisdom right?

Unlikely.

True, Alexander was a product of a very good OL, but he was a league MVP.

At least Alexander has had several successful seasons in the NFL, and has shown that he can run the ball if the blocking is good. He's always had great vision in between the tackles. I think Alexander would be a waste of time as well, but I'd certainly rather take a look at him over Ced Benson who has never has one good season in the NFL. I'd take a washed up Alexander over a "Never Was", RB in Benson who gets arrested every month any day.

Do we have anything to lose at this point?

If he´s cheap go for it. If it wern't for a couple of fumbles yesterday I would even consider getting Ricky Williams

I'm really not surprised that Ahman is hurt again but am disappointed that he is injured. I never thought we should have signed him and now it seems that it was a waste of money. Good news is, at least we'll get to see more of Slaton, Taylor and perhaps Walker.

Well, here's the deal, the "west coast offense" has variations. Reid is from holmgren and u see the biggest o-line in football. When holgren was in green bay, they also had big linemen like winters and such to run the g-power and really just "debo" people. Denny Green also like those massive guys. In dnver, kubbes and shanaahan like smaller quicker guys so they can move the pocket, zone blkk to get to the nxt leevel. The texans are in transition iin that area so it might take a few weeks. Its not that they have probems against those big strong nt, everyone has problems against hampton, williams, woolfolk ngata to name a few. Pittsburgh was the #1 defense last yr. Look how chicago made peyton look. Look at carson with under 100 yds passing. I mean those d-line guys get paid too.

I mentioned in the Cedric Benson thread.....Jim Brown, in his prime, would not help this team right now.

Gibbs needs to get a new magic wand.

oops just noticed Brown was mentioned in a previous post.
