Not much specific football news.
Kubiak was funny as hell. Very good speaker. He says that as good as the fans were at making Reliant a tough place to play, he sees us helping making Reliant the toughest place to play in the league. Talked a lot about expectations that they have in themselves and how how they are working. Talked about how Harry Williams was the best special teams player and was going to make the team before his injury. They had a card in the lobby for fans to sign. We sat next to Jacoby Jones. Very straight talking and oft funny. He said that Williams is a close friend of his because they played in the same conference together. He said that consistently, Williams was down the field 10 yards before everyone else. Jacoby thinks the passing game is going to be sick good. He says that he hears the fans when he is doing returns, and wants everybody to continue being loud. That he appreciates the fans a ton and those who support him. He says he is going to get a lot of playing time in the next game, especially on ST. Jacoby says that Will Demps is a very smart player. Andre Johnson spoke and said he is practicing fine and has no problems. Chester Pitts talked about learning the run blocking, and specifically praised Alex Gibbs for all the good work he was doing. I shot some video of Jacoby that I hope to put up soonishly. I hope that HT.com puts a lot of Kubiak's remarks on their website.

Ever since Houston went to one newspaper it has declined. McClain and Justice are like tenured govt employees. They can do almost anything and not be held accountable. Until someone hire up cares about the chron and its integrity nothing will change. It makes a profit so the board of directors (they are probably in another city)do not care what they do there.

The Houston Chronicle always has been and always will be a baseball first news paper. Doesn't matter what the Texans do....What the college teams do, no matter how unsuccessful the astros are. The astros will always dominate the local coverage from February to October...no matter how bad they are. How hopeless...doesn't matter. They are still getting first page run even though they've been dead ducks for four weeks. Look at the reporters column inches and money they spend on the baseball side and compare that to the football side. Do what I do...don't read the baseball stiffs when they write about football. saves blood pressure and they really don't have a clue about football anyway. When the Houston Post died this town lost big time.

Richard Justice writes about as well as that 3 legged turtle runs!
The Old Houston Post was our best football sports newspaper, but the Comical swallowed them up in a merger. Prices immediatly went up and quality went down. Then the Hearst newspaper chain bought out Jesse Jones' old Houston Endowment, or at least that part of it that owned the Chronicle. no competition and out of town ownership gave us what we have now. |

The Chronic is owned by the Hearst Co. (remember patty). Last I heard their HQ was in San Francisco the land of fruits and nuts. The Chronic makes millions just off of the classified ads. Full page color ads are the cherry on top. They now have a contract to print local editions of USA Today. They could afford to hire some real sports reporters, but why should they? After they gobbled up the old Houston Press and then the Houston Post, everything went down hill.

I think this is probably wrong with JJ. He's too worried about putting on a show than anything else. He's trying too hard for the "big play" with every opportunity. I like JJ alot, but I wish he'd just play the game without thinking he's got to be the hero. Just my .02

He loves Coach Joe and Coach Kubiak. Both have been chewing on him. I figure we don't need to be chewing on him any more. He was not carrying his football.

Thanks for the report Steph!
JJ IS fun to watch, and I bet with the butt chewing he's getting from Gibbs and Kubiak, he'll HAVE to get better, or else. A serious injury like what happened to Harry Wms can shake up even the strongest! Wish I could have been there! ST

At some stage this year JJ is going bust one 'showboating' and everyone on here will think he is a god.
I'd take 10 0yrd returns for one taken to the house. Everyone is a critic till you prove yourself right.

TC, can you expound on real issues like Gibbs screaming at his players?
Oh wait, this is REAL Texans news, not butthurt "Gibbs won't talk to me" journalism. Thanks for the write up TC. On JJ, did you get the feeling he's in high spirits and not letting his recent mistakes take its mental toll? Last year, after coming back from injury, I felt he was mentally affected and didn't come back aggressive and confident. I'm just wondering what's between the ears with this kid and if he's mentally tough enough to bounce back.
