Reliant Stadium opened in Houston, Texas. The Texans' preseason game against the Miami Dolphins drew 69,432 fans, the largest non-Super Bowl crowd to ever watch an NFL game in Houston. front page little bitty link http://www.nfl.com/ Geeze 6 years old already

What a day (and night) that was. We were tailgating in the Yellow lot, on the concrete. It felt like 110°. We had a makeshift tarp hung off the van supported by a couple poles. Most didn't have cover of any kind. We made fajitas on an Old Smokey. Ran out of water by 5pm, so I made the Bataan death march across Kirby for a couple of gallons.
A couple of things I remember about the game: 1) David Carr rolled out and threw what seemed to be an 80 yard bomb to Corey Bradford. TD Texans! Oh wait...penalty on the Texans. 2) The Texans are down 30-zip to Miami with a minute left in the game. Mike Carey and crew throw about a dozen flags in that minute. Welcome to the freakin' NFL.

Remember it well. Was a little late for tailgating because it was a double-header day for me. Caught the Astros game that started at 1:00 and as soon as that was over, high tailed it to Reliant Park. They had cash parking for that first game, yellow lot. We were going to park there and walk over to the blue lot where our crew was already. Well, when we got there the yellow lot was full so they directed us to the red lot way out behind the convention center. Walked over to blue from there. That was a hell of a hike.
The next game, they ditched the cash parking idea and made it where you had to have a parking pass to park on the property. We never got parking passes with our season tickets because we were going to do the cash thing so we had to scramble to get passes and ended up with yellow and have been there ever since. But that first tailgate was a hot one, on the concrete, in the blue lot. We didn't have a canopy or anything either and was crouching down between cars trying to get shade. That day was the first time I'd ever eaten bratwurst. Some good stuff man. Happy birthday Reliant!!

I was there in my seats well before kick-off. I remember learning that traffic was a pain and people did not get to their seats until the 3rd quarter. And so died the idea of allowing people to drive up and pay to park.

I just remember my "neighbor" in the seats to my right bringing his obnoxious buddy to the game....who subsequently "Christened" the new stadium by BARFING all over the seat in front of him, on the concrete in front of his seat and splattering on my shoes.
...welcome to the Bull Pen...
