I think he's in the process of realizing he has to grow up and mature. He's in the big leagues now. With that said, he has a ton of potential and he is not a poor character guy. I don't see any reason why we should cut him. I think he is going to take some time to develop as a WR and we knew this drafting him out of Lane College. Give him another 1-2 seasons and I think he and AJ are going to be on the same field consistently, and defenses will hate it.
Even at this point, there isn't a WR below Jacoby on the depth chart I would keep in place of JJ. But he does need to go through a little more maturing. |

My nephew see's Jacoby on the town on a regular basis, he also see's Studdard alot.
I know it is hard to be young and handed a large sack of money. But that gravy train will come to a halt real fast for Jacoby if he doesn't start showing the results of the coaching he is getting. I know coach Joe does not teach running backwards, and he is not that fast... BTW, I want him to succeed, he seems to be a good kid, just a little misdirected right now. |

Needs to work on ball security. He cost us the 2nd Tacks game with a muffed punt and he coughed it up with that ridiculous play on Saturday. The quickest way into Kubes' doghouse is to turn the ball over.

Jacoby has to prove something this year. He seems to dance alot with no defining moves. The NFL is not like the NBA, you are not guaranteed a future..

This city has gotten cut happy. One mis-step and we want to release guys.
Newsflash: We aren't that deep Our competition has seriously increased, but I don't think we are at a place on this team where we can cut a guy like JJ because he fumbled once during preseason. He has insane talent and is in his second year. Lets give him some time

I dont think too many people actually WANT him cut. He's probably the 2nd most talented WR on the roster to AJ. But as far as being a pure WR is concerned he's our 5th best. Personally, i'm not expecting him to become a # 2 overnight, but getting better at the basics like ball control would definately be nice.
Plus hearing that he's a bit of a party animal isn't so nice to hear. I think he also got hit with a DUI this offseason. The NFL has enough talented players, the ones with maturity issues rarely last long unless they are able to get that under control. Look at a guy like Chris Henry, he's extremely talented but where is he now? Not comparing JJ's off field behavior to Henry in the least but lets just say i'd like to see AJ's work ethic rub off on him a bit more.

When did this become a society where we tell people in their 20's not to party?
Now... hopefully he's being reponsible and not driving around under the influence but I think it's a bit crazy to ask rich young men not to have some fun occasionally (and I don't even drink or anything.) |

Hey Texan Sam, what LZ said about Jacoby is true. I don't go out to nightclubs regularly, but when I do I go to more upscale places. And it never fails that I see Jacoby Jones on the scene. I can count at least three different places I've seen him at on three different nights of the week right off the top of my head. Dude likes to get his party on for real.

And being out and about myself in those days (late-70s, 80s, and even the early 90s), I would see Oilers and Rockets at the Houston hot spots all the time. Coming from being pretty much broke and from Po-Dunk (Jackson), Tenn. to metropolitan H-Town with big money in his jeans and thousands of ways to spend it without going a little crazy takes maturity. And Jacoby doesn't have the steadying support system that, say, Amobi does. I'm not surprised he's going a bit buckwild.... I think Jacoby needs a wake-up call regarding how secure his spot on this team is. Maybe if Slaton were move up to the #1 PR guy and Anderson move up to #5 WR leaving JJ on the bubble... just for the next couple of preseason games.... you know, to wake him up. I don't care what he does on his own time as long as he's not breaking the law, but on the field he needs to get himself under control and learn how to run with the ball without flailing it around like he's Michael Jackson dangling a kid out of a window.
I love the attitide that he wants to score a TD every time he touches the ball but sometimes discretion is the better choice rather than trying to make something out of nothing every time. He should know by now that this is the NFL and you can't beat those guys around the corner as easily as at Lane. There's greatness in his future if he works at it but right now he's kind of in a 'Jacoby giveth and Jacoby taketh away' mode. Let's hope that he settles down on the field and dedicates himself to being a pro's pro, because no one is doubting his physical skills - but that can only take you so far. I didn't think the blocking was too great on Jacobys fumble punt. Maybe someone can take a look at that again. Its no reason to dance with the ball (although I thought his moves were sweet)
Maybe its one of those blocking schemes designed to lay people out as the returner starts going forward and they have to backtrack/go sideways to get into position |

So far JJ is still riding on his preseason performance from his rookie year. And durability became an issue last year, and his ability to hold onto the ball is still a serious issue.
I seriously doubt they'd consider cutting him this year, only his second after being our #2 pick behind Okoye in 2007, but I'd think the grace period ends for sure in 2009. |

I have a feeling that Kubiak gave JJ a little talk at some point after that game. It was obvious that Kubiak was less than happy with JJ's little rabbit run around the field before losing the ball. I'm hoping the old talk from the coach trick causes JJ to start taking care of business on the field without trying to make every touch of the ball into a front page headline.
The partying notwithstanding, JJ's appears to have a very strong desire to be the star. He just hasn't figured out quite how to do that. He is a bit cocky and the coaches should be able to channel that into more productive behavior. This is going to take a bit of tough love, imo.For sure, he is one talented kid, but a work in progress. I just hope he doesn't decide he knows best and go down the road of other talented players who are no longer playing. That would be such a waste. |

The city streets of Houston, millions of dollars and fame can really make you lose focus.... Houston is just like that..but its up to him, whether or not he really wants to win big or just wants his pay check and to make some fancy moves...He's probably just going thru a phase, hell I know I would probably do the same thing for a little while if I had it like that, so give the man a chance..
