From Rotoworld :

Quote:
Mike Bell reported to the Texans out of ideal physical condition and left Saturday's morning practice with a sore hamstring.
Not a good first impression. "I just don't think he was in very good condition," coach Gary Kubiak said, speaking in the past tense as if Bell is already a goner. "He got gassed the first night he was out here, he got gassed earlier today, and he's not up with our team. We found that out real fast."
Oh well, no big loss. He deserves it IMO. Show up in shape or hit the bricks .

Agreed. And I don't think any of the ones we have had are considered long term serious injuries.

I am worried about tomorrow though. With the 80 man roster limit's already pinching our depth on the line, and 3 guys being held out, our front line starters are probably going to play much more than usual for a preseason opener.

I'm going to throw some salt over my shoulder, cross all my fingers and toes, and my little curly tail, and hope we don't have anything major happen to anyone on that line tomorrow.

Yeah, the O-Line in the 2nd half with Boyd will all be all the 3rd and 4th stringers, if we have any left. Boyd better wear some extra padding, or just hand off the ball a lot.

percentage of your audience will not believe what you believe (evidence being absolutely irrelevent to this) and some smaller subset of that group will bash you for it. It's human nature when given a semi-anonymous venue for conversation.

Mike Bell served his purpose and that was to send a message to Chris Brown in particular and the rest of the running backs in general that nobody on our roster is so good that we can afford to stand pat where RB talent is concerned. If we have to look under every rock to get better we will. In short, to borrow a line from R. Lee Ermey; Gary Kubiak will motivate you Chris Brown, if it short dicks every cannibal on the Congo!

Nothing in this article really surprised me except this;

Meanwhile, general manager Rick Smith said today that the Texans could bring back guard Charles Spencer and sign him to the practice squad. After the Texans waived Spencer in July, Carolina claimed him. The Panthers waived him Thursday, saying he was too out of shape to contribute.

“The door’s still open,” Smith said. “We’ve been in contact with him. If he gets in shape, then another chapter in the Charles Spencer story could be written with our team.”

I just couldn't believe no one in this thread even mentioned it the way most were saddened to see him go.

Also, I was surprised to read that he is eligible for the PS. That would be something if we resigned him and he ends up playing for us this year. I guess stranger things have happened. Anyway, go "Big Nasty!"

Bell's roster spot was sacrificed because Weary, Salaam, and Jackson are hurting.

Ruh roh.
Your exactly right. With the lineman situation getting thin through the preseason, the surplus of running backs is not needed. We still have 4 preseason games to go through and a host of other practices until Pgh. Stay healthy, and do so at the expense of journeyman lineman. Who knows, maybe someone will show Gibbs and Kub's something, and add to the depth.
