I heard on the radio this morning that the Texans signed a pretty good FB. It was a guy I am somewhat familiar with, but I seem to have brain freeze, and cannot remember his name. Maybe it's not official yet, as I don't see anything official anywhere. If anyone remembers or knows who this FB is, please let me/us know. Thanks!

haven't heard anything about any fullbacks being signed...but as far as june 1st cuts go...what about the tackle from tampa bay...keynetta(not sure on the spelling) walker...he's been a bust so far in his career maybe he just needs a new start

Charles Stackhouse. He played for Minnesota last year, and was with the Giants before that. He has been in the league for three years and he played college ball at Mississippi. He's a good blocker, and has decent pass catching abilities. I think he'll just provide better competition, and I don't think he'll get the #1 FB spot on the roster. It all depends how well Baxter is doing after being on IR last season.

Here is what it I found on Stackhouse coming out of Ole Miss as a FA signed by the Giants in 2002:

FB Charles Stackhouse, University of Mississippi, 6-2, 252lbs, 4.90: Signing Stackhouse would be a major coup for the Giants as he has a good chance to be the Giants' starting fullback on opening day. I had Stackhouse rated as the #1 fullback in the draft. Stackhouse started 25 games in his career, including 10 in each of the last two seasons. In 2001, he started eight games at fullback and two at tailback. Selected to the Senior Bowl after rushing for 330 yards and five touchdowns on 75 carries. Also caught 21 passes for 172 yards and two scores. Finished career with 125 carries for 549 yards and six touchdowns and 35 receptions for 334 yards and three scores. Charles has classic fullback size and toughness. Plays quicker than he times. Good runner and receiver out of the backfield for a big man. Runs with power. Adjusts well to the pass and has good hands. Flashes good leading blocking skills, but needs more consistency in that department. Was the lead blocker for Deuce McAllister. Needs better technique in keeping his pad level down and adjust better when blocking on the move. Picks up the blitz well - an unusual quality for a rookie. Frank Coyle of DraftInsiders.com believes he has future Pro Bowl ability. At the Combine, Stackhouse ran 5.00 with 29'' vertical leap and a 9'3'' broad jump. Benched 225lbs 20 times.

and the FB battle in training camp is already great, this should make it tougher.

I wouldnt be surprised to see 2 RBs and 2 FBs on the roster come opening day. RBs - DD and Hollings FBs- Baxter (he played RB in college, so he could double if needed) and Norris, with Wells and Stackhouse being released.

That is pretty much how I see the FB/RB line up shaking out also. Looks very solid to me.

Hollings and D.D. are in for sure. We need a run blocking FB and Norris seems to have the inside track on that. We also need a short yardage back. That will come from Baxter, Wells, and Stackhouse. Baxter seems to have the inside track on that.

I confess I like Baxter, but Norris played well and it looks like Stackhouse will get a shot.

Agreed. Hopefully, Baxter can has healed and he can fit in as a short yardage back and special teamer.

Last year the Texans kept 4 RB's (Davis, Hollings, Mack, Wells) and 2 FB's (Norris, Comella), so it is pretty safe to assume they will keep at least 5 total this year.

Davis, Hollings, and Norris seem to be locks. There could be two separate battles for roster spots, both involving Baxter. One would be for the second fullback position between Baxter and Stackhouse. The other would be for the short yardage specialist between Baxter and Wells.

Offseason conditioning and special teams participation will be very important in determining who stays and who gets cut. If someone comes to camp slightly out of shape or gets nicked up during camp and misses valuable time he will find himself without a job. Also, backup RB's and FB's are required to be major contributors on special teams, so if someone can stand out as a blocker and tackler in return and coverage units he can wrap up a spot.

Competition for spots is a good thing.

stackhouse is a pretty good player he got into the dog house while he was in new york. he will end up being the starter.
