Default Giants' Super Bowl Rings stolen in The Attleboro Job

Thieves disabled the alarm system at E.A. Dion, a jewelry manufacturer in Attleboro, Massachusetts, cut a hole in the roof, and somehow got out of there clean with a safe that weighed over 1,000 pounds. Among the items in the safe were some Giants Super Bowl Rings.

It's not clear exactly how many rings were in the safe, or who they belonged to. The players already were awarded their rings. Maybe these belonged to the players who hadn't gotten theirs yet (Jeremy Shockey, perhaps), other team employees, or maybe some guys just chose to keep their rings in a supposedly safe place.

Police say they have no suspects. But Shutdown Corner is a friend to law enforcement, so I'm going to throw some theories out there and see if maybe they help.

The only people I know of who could pull off a heist like that are Mark Wahlberg, Mos Def, Jason Statham, Seth Green, and Charlize Theron. I'd make them the top suspects, and I encourage police to keep searching "The Attleboro Job" on IMDB to see if any further information becomes available.

And if that doesn't pan out, I say you start by examining two things: motive, and the kind of people in the area with the skills to pull off this kind of heist.

As for motive, who'd want Super Bowl Super Bowl XLII rings that badly? I don't know. Maybe there's a group of locals who really wanted those Super Bowl XLII rings, got very close to getting them, and then came up short.

And as for people capable of the job, you'd need a crew that includes someone with covert surveillance skills, someone who's been doing the strength training necessary to move an object that heavy, a wheel man who's willing to drive into whoever he has to to get away clean, and someone in the Mark Wahlberg role who's proven that he can manage a crew of guys in a high-pressure situation.

I can't think of anyone specifically who would fit those roles, but maybe police can.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP)—Thieves broke into a jewelry company over the weekend and stole up to $2 million in gold, gems and other valuables, including Super Bowl rings made for New York Giants staff members, authorities said.

The thieves disabled the alarm system at E.A. Dion Inc., cut a hole in the roof and made off with a safe that weighed at least 1,000 pounds.

The loss was discovered Sunday by a Dion employee, who went to the business when she was unable to access her work e-mail from home, apparently because phone lines had been cut. The heist could have taken place at any time over the weekend, Sgt. Jim Keane said Wednesday.

The Super Bowl rings made by the company were to be given to the Giants staff members to commemorate the team’s win over the New England Patriots, team spokesman Pat Hanlon said.

The players and coaches had already received their rings last month. The staffers were to receive identical ones—white gold rings with the “NY” logo is set in diamonds and “World Champions” emblazoned in raised letters. They were designed by Tiffany and Co. and have a retail value at $25,000 each, the team said.

The company does not discuss specific customer’s orders, President Edward Dion Jr. said.

I'd investigate Dan Marino. That dude would probably sell his first born for a Super Bowl ring. They may even want to look into Charles Barkley. He is strapped for cash and he doesn't have a ring either. He don't care that its not his sport. Plus he would have something to pawn in Vegas next time things got rough at the blackjack table.

seriously though, this sounds like a true professional job. maybe a nice little cache of illegal and un-inventoried diamonds or un-laundered cash as well.
