I am guessing that this is cleaning up other stuff.

To try to simplify the explanation as much as possible. The most likely scenario is that when you have a severe MCL/PCL strain/tear, you have some significant unnatural sliding of the joint surfaces at the time of trauma and subsequently due a period of joint instability, which can lead to breaking off of small particles of the apposing joint cartilage surfaces. These particles float around in the joint (much like medial meniscus injuries) and intermittently get stuck in and grind away at the joint surfaces, thus propagating inflammation and pain. The more vigorous movement (likely accelerated at minicamp), the more inflammation and the more pain. Until a "clean up" is performed, the chain of events are unlikely to cease..........in fact, they would be expected to worsen, despite intermittent periods of rest. That's my best shot at what's going on.

I agree 100%. I also think we can start calling AJ for injury prone, like Ahman Green. Honestly, I cant see why we would handle their injuries any different

He's spent his offseason rehabbing. Any chance they should have figured this was going to be a problem earlier?

Generally, what is the prognosis after this sort of cleanup?

/doesn't trust information coming from Texans given Domanick Davis/Williams, Ahman Green, and Andre Johnson being "week to week" last year, so I'd like to find out other info.

He's had plenty of time to recover from his PCL injury. We must though keep in mind that depending on the original severity of the injury, he MAY be at increased risk for reinjury. But I think the residual "floating" cartilage is his present problem and, if these particles have not already created further major abrasive damage to the joint, with clean up scoping his chances for coming back quickly and to full speed is excellent. This is one full recovery which I have more confidence in actually happening.

So, essentially, this scope is actually something that should have been reasonably expected given the nature of his injury, and (1) might actually improve the healing process and (2) decrease the risk of re-injury by removing irritants in the joint?

I'm not to bothered by this. I was never a big fan of OTAs in the first place, as (I believe Jamie Dukes mentioned this on NFLN either yesterday or the day before) they are essentially running full speed drills with no pads. They are fairly dangerous and they are certainly less important to the success of the team than the health of its best player. Get well soon A.J., and come out kicking ass!

Exactly. Also there could be irregularities in the joint cartilate surfaces still attached, caused by the original trauma which may need to be smoothed down in order that further abrasive damage does not occur.
