sort of a depressing read to see such a high failure rate amongst such elite professionial athletes

size does matter, but attitude can be the great equalizer. a combination of both will warrant the high selection

We've done OK so far with our drafting. I will be more than happy to leave it up to Casserly to the decision making on who we draft, and where, and for what position.

This guy is a 25 year old man playing against boys. I would hope that he's dominating at the mid-major college level.

Chris Landry on a UT site answered a couple of questions on orangeblood.com...I am highlighting the Roderick Wright section in light of this conversasion.

Q: Larry Dibbles is coming off a great junior season and has been named to
several All-Big 12 teams already. How do you think he projects as an NFL
player? Is there anyone he reminds you of?

A: He has an explosive first step, has heavy hands and has the frame to develop into a fine interior rusher. With a good senior year he could definitely see the first round.

Q: It looks like Jonathan Scott, Mike Huff and Rod Wright are all going to come
back to UT for their senior seasons. However, if any of the three did come
out early, where would they be projected at this point to be taken?

A: Scott is still very raw and has first round potential is he improves his strength and learns to play with better leverage at the point of attack. He would go early second day this year if he came out.

Huff is a very versatile defender in the secondary capable of playing corner in the NFL in a cover 2 scheme. He will definitely be a solid nickel player who can line up over and jam a slot. He has the instincts to play inside at the next level but lacks the size. He would be a late first day pick and could improve that somewhat with a good senior year.

Wright has first round size and ability but free agent work ethic and dedication to the game. He has more ability than his cousin, Cedric Woodard now playing with the Seahawks. If he improves his dedication and work ethic, he could be a high first rounder. Right now he is considered a talented underachiever.
Chris Landry is a veteran NFL scout, having served with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and formerly ran the Indianapolis Scouting Combine. He now runs his own Scouting Consulting business where he scouts NFL and College personnel for NFL teams and help Universities and NFL teams in their Coaching evaluations and Searches. He can be heard nationally on FOX Sports Radio as their college football and NFL analyst.

I totally agree with this view of DT's in the 1st. They seem to not pan out, more often than do great. I see Wilfork doing great from last years draft. But Tubbs and Harris, im not too sure about.

From what I've seen of Harris he's played pretty well. Tank Johnson seems to have panned out well for the Bears too. The Bears defense had 5 sacks against the Vikings yesterday I believe.

I don't like the sound of that since the Texans visit Chicago soon.

well sometimes it's more about the coaches you have coaching them up insted of them theirselves...and whether or not they have a good veteran to take tutor them...like kevin williams had chris hovan and look how productive kevin williams as been...you have to look at many things with DT's because there is so much they have to be able to do...i think in last years draft we'll find that darnell dockett will be the best overall DT that was taken but i still think tommie harris will be very good...wilfork will be good but not a household name because of the patriots system...i also find it funny that last years draft we didn't pick a DT up in the later rounds...i felt like there were plenty of options out there that we didn't attempt to get
