Default Texans First Round History

Nice little breakdown by ESPN of every teams first round picks since 2000 so obviously every 1st round pick we've ever made. It is especially nice to read what they say about Mario.

It's fun to look at the list of the Jags players.

But scary to see how well the Colts have drafted.

They were generous with TJ, but Mario and D Rob should have a blinking arrow...ESPECIALLY since they called Mario a bust! How has he NOT exceeded expectations.

Maybe they just mean the expectations of where they were drafted. In that case it's pretty impressive, and rare, to live up to the expectations placed on the first overall pick in a draft.

the draft is the key to long term success, teams that draft well can let all pro's go

Two things I found interesting:
- The shine has worn off of Reggie Bush (he's got a down arrow)
- You would not expect the Giants to be the defending Super Bowl champions based on this analysis of their picks (two down arrows, 5 sideways, none up)

No love for Houston in this one. Dunta Robinson is ranked as just an all right draft selection? Granted, this was a very strong first round were talking about here. None the less, Dunta has proved to be an elite player and it's almost a little offending to see that he is ranked as no better a draft choice than Vince Young or Fabian Washington.

As far as Mario is concerned, same deal. 14 sacks last season (t-3rd in NFL)...meh, he was an all right pick.

In addition to Pitts, there's the second rounder we threw away for Philip Buchanon.

Compared to the rest of the league, the Texans have done reasonably well in the first round. It's the two rounds after that--where champions are normally built--that were the nightmare. Until 2006: now we're on a streak of successful picks in rounds 2/3. If Schaub plays like he's capable, then we can add two more second-round picks to the "successful" side of the ledger.
