Default New Mock Draft out with DRC as a Texan

This one took awhile but I finally finished it.

http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootba....html#comments

I've got DRC going to the Texans as I expect him to drop. The question will be whether or not he can get past the death trap of Detroit/Arizona at #15 and #16.

I've been hearing some rumblings about the Ravens really liking Chris Williams and if he were to get drafted at 8 then then McKelvin would fall to either 10 or 11.

I've been guaranteed that J. Stewart won't even get to #18 so hopefully that helps push a tackle or CB back towards the Texans.

You really think Otah is gonna go that high? His 40 time moved him up that Significantly? I actually think that Albert will go in Otah's position and vice versa.

thats a whole lotta of money to invest in a projection (Albert to LT) Otah is a bonefide tackle prospect even if he's still raw. one thing if you investigate Albert you'll notice his weight fluctuates quite a bit which at least is a yellow flag

Would be great to get a corner like DRC at #18 LZ, but its just wishful thinking. Hey, that's why they call them "Mock" Drafts.

felix jones reminds me of deangelo williams. you might recall that was a running back kubiak wanted to trade back into the first round for (the deal was ultimately nixed due to buffalo ).

i dont really expect williams or albert to be there at 18, if thats the case i think theyd like to trade back and take the best talent available----------normally thats easier said then done right? this year i think we'll see a boat load of trades due to the 10 minute time change. teams have already contacted one another and scheduled trades in the event of this scenerio or that scenerio.....

i think the ground work on a lot of these trades to be has already happened.

in any case i feel like we can recoup a pick and still find a great talent. this is such a great draft the texans have to find a way to get back into play...

see ya later sage.

and for the doubters about sage's value, try watching a couple of his games. i rewatched the denver and last jacksonville game just a few days ago and walked away impressed. someone will offer a #2 or at least a #3 and a #5.

his value skyrockets just the second ryan, brohm, and henne are off the board.

Coaches couldn't care less about 40 times with offensive linemen. They care about the 10 yard splits much more than the 40 yard time and they care about how quick a guys feet are, how long his arms are, what kind of core strength he has, how coachable he is, what his body composition is like and what kind of intelligence he has. Otah is a strong run blocker who had a very good workout the other day. The 40 was of no consequence to the teams who were there.

It isn't really a "projection" to say Albert is a LT. He played better at LT than at guard. It's all on the game film. Nobody drafts guards in the top 15. If Albert gets drafted early and plays guard, then it will only be for the short term. The Cardinals made the mistake of drafting Leonard Davis and trying to play him at tackle when he was best suited to play guard. Waste of money. Teams don't pay huge money like that for guards -they pay it for tackles. As long as Albert isn't underweight, I wouldn't care what his weight is. He is the best athlete of all the linemen in this draft.

LOL. Why is it "wishful thinking"? I know of a team who took him off the board because "one hit in the wrong place and he could die.... we aren't taking that risk". I think football fans get too wrapped up in what they see and hear on ESPN and NFL Network. Teams don't like risking big signing bonuses on character problems or guys with medical issues. To think that he would fall to 18 isn't a wild stretch.

Doesn't he only have one kidney? Isn't that a bad thing for an athlete?

I hear yeah, but still his primary postion in College was OG & I'm wondering just why Virginia wasn't a more dominant team than their results indicate, considering they have possibly two top 5 picks one of defense & one on offense anyways I digress, if you could describe "best athlete" for us

I should have used the word "workout" instead of 40 time. I just remember him being a mid first to late round first before this latest workout. Is he just a brute strenght guy or does he also have pretty quick feet?

I've had some time to study this "new mock draft" you along with John Harris worked so hard to create & I'd call it well done but pretty safe because it addresses most teams primary needs within the constraints of bpa. The Otah selection is outside the box then it pretty much follows form until the end where all hell breaks loose, but thats to be expected (if we can't agree on the top 5 how are we going to agree on the bottom 5?).

is Matt Ryan worth a top 5 pick & how many #1 drafted QB's become great NFL franchise QB's? I can think of several off the top of my head who where, well, busts. taking a QB this high is a huge concern & risk if not where is the 2nd QB taken? is Ryan that much better than Brian Brohm? who takes a QB thats the question, heck I could see Chicago trading up or just waiting @ #14.

fight for 2nd tackle off the board between Otah & Clady

if Darren McFadden falls just how far past the NY Jets could he go? looking at those teams, when would Jerry start having his people calling?

I would hope the 49er's address a big WR for Smith I've noticed Malcolm Kellys absence, for obvious reasons, however you can't deny talent if they bring him in, workouts & interviews well they'd have to be crazy to pass on his talent with needing an impact #1 WR target.

He has pretty good feet. Many team think he is very comparable to Charles Spencer but with a little bit less of a concern about his weight. He was ahead of Clady on a couple of teams that I know of before he even had his workout. Keep in mind that where a guy is slotted in the draft is nothing more than guesswork by draft pundits. Teams aren't out there publishing their draft boards so when Kiper or McShay or Mayock say that a player is ranked in slot "x", then that is their opinion. That doesn't mean that teams have a player there.

For example, why did Kiper have Frank Okam as a first rounder even after the season ended? NFLDraftScout.com had him as a 2nd rounder at that time. I knew from talking to scouts in this region that nobody had anything higher than a 4th round grade on him at the time. So the public might have considered him a 1st or 2nd rounder based on what they were reading when in reality he was a 3/4/5 rounder according to NFL teams. I think Otah has been rated more highly all along that most of us realized, myself included.

I will admit that I am influenced primarily by need when it comes to mocks, but I've learned from talking to some NFL people over the past five years about how teams view certain positions in terms of value and how some teams will strategize over the first three to four rounds which is why I think my mocks are always more consistent from the early stages on. With that said, I think the top 8 to 12 picks start to take shape for pretty much everyone's mock by the week of the draft and the "hell breaking loose" does happen sometime around 12 or earlier.

I'm really not excited about having Ryan at 3. I think the Falcons have a great shot of trading back and then taking a QB in the 2nd round. I think Ryan is that much better than Brohm though because of Brohm's issues with pressure vs. the way Ryan handled pressure (in the pocket I"m talking about).

I think the Niners could easily wait until the 2nd or even 3rd to go after a WR. Donnie Avery could be shooting up the charts and he might be a surprise pick by the Niners at the end of the first.

teams better know excatly the investment risk/reward when selecting a Matt Ryan who doesn't have great athletic ability, velocity on his throws, size & other measureables to make sure he fits the system & can execute the game plan in NFL speed/time. reminds me alot of Alex Smith who the 49ers took #1 overall but instead of justifying the pick created the car wreck scenero redoux

Matt Ryan would be a great fit in Seattle @ #25 this years Brady Quinn

I'm also skeptical that he's overrated, but between Atlanta, K.C., The Jets, and Baltimore, I'll bet he doesn't slip out of the top 8.

Baltimore is a distinct possiblity. last year Quinn was a toss-up for Cleveland (I'm sure they're releived) & Miami (would like a do over). So the middle ground approach is probably the lesser of two extremes

Teams better know exactly the investment risk/reward when selecting any player in top of the draft.

You dont have to be a great athlete to be a great QB just ask Dan Marino or Tom Brady. You also question his size? 6'5" 224 is a little on the thin side but NFL trainers will add some extra weight to that frame.

I wonder if people who are down on Ryan even watched him play. I did several times and was very impressed. IMO he is easily the best QB coming out and is without a doubt a top ten pick.

Ryan is overrated BECAUSE he is the top QB in the class.

He's not one of the top 10 most talented players in this draft. But he will be drafted in the top 10 because of the position that he plays.
