Default Chris Simms a no show for Bucs' offseason workouts

According to the St. Petersburg Times:

Quote:
TAMPA — Quarterback Chris Simms has decided not to participate in the Bucs' offseason workouts, an indication he no longer fits into next season's plans and could be traded.

Although the workouts are voluntary, Simms also skipped last week's quarterback orientation for the first time in his career.

"I just think … it's in my best interest to continue my own workouts and to just wait and see what happens with the team," Simms said. "I don't really know what's going to happen. As far as the Bucs and the quarterback position goes, it's always an adventure."
What says Simms' BFFL, and Texans OC, Kyle Shanahan? After all the offseason maneuvering is done, it wouldn't surprise me if Simms is in a texans uniform come training camp.

I've been saying for months that he'd solve our need for a blue-chip LT. Winston at RT would become the blindside pass protector and then we could draft a RT-quality OT and put him at LT.

Trade Sage, start Simms, put Schaub at no. 2, leave Quinn at 3 and some of our problems are solved.

Interesting. To be honest, I wanted to draft him. Casserly didn't think it would be in Simms best interest to stay in Texas. I would have rather had Simms over Ragone.

:elle: Please kindly step away from the crack pipe....

LOL, just kidding.

In all seriousness though, being a huge Longhorn fan, I wish Simms the best and hope he is very successful. However, I would prefer to do it from a distance. I swear, if I have to watch him "lead" another team that I support, I think I'll just and

IMO, Simms is a somewhat more intelligent Carr but less physically gifted....and the end result is the same.

Interesting take considering everything we gave up for Schaub & now you just want to give his job away to a kid who has only played in 3 games in the last two years combined & has a career QB Rating of 71?

That suggestion was made tongue-in-cheek and I'm actually in the "keep all three QB's we have now (S,S & G)" camp.

I'd be interested in seeing Simms as a #2 behind Schaub if the Texans did decide to move Rosenfels. I could see him competing against Gray and the loser either staying at 3 if we keep 3 or being cut at the end of camp. Kubiak does some good stuff with QB's who take the coaching and fit the system and I think that Simms could do this. For the record though I also think Gray will be fine as the 2 as well so it's not like we need to go out and try to get somebody if that happened.

Brian Griese was 6-10, 11-5, 8-8, and 9-7 in essentially this offensive system/running game and to some extent this coaching. I think Schaub is a better QB than Griese was and I think Simms is also a step above Griese. I think Chris Simms career could benefit from a couple of years under Kubiak. Look what it did for Sage Rosenfels. He went from a "nothing to get excited about" free-agent signing to a guy that's got enough value to draw a 3rd rounder. In fact nobody thought the Texans were nuts for wanting to hold out for a 2nd rounder. Three years ago that idea would have made a few people laugh but not anymore.

Well, seeing as Jon Gruden has used nearly every other QB in the NFL I reckon it could work.

Sage might give Gruden that Rich Gannon "late bloomer" feel, or maybe not.

I think that's what Gruden has been looking for though.

I hate Chris Simms....just say NO to the guy who stole the starting QB role at UT because of his daddy. Classic choke artist who had to be saved in the Holiday Bowl by the better QB. I would hate to see him wearing deep steel blue. Loser.

I had been pro Simms for quite some time due to him being under Greg Davis' tutelage and that gawd awful offense. However, his stint with the Bucs has been reminiscient of Carr everytime I have seen him take a snap.

Simms as a #3 at minimum, sure. As a #2, at this point in his career, would be an awful move in my opinion. Moreover, I am not a proponent of 3 QBs.

You get a chance in the NFL based upon potential. You get a 2nd chance in the NFL based upon who you know.

Chris Simms & David Carr know people.

The only thing I'll give Simms is that when they made the playoffs and he had his shot, he did pretty well and was a drop away from a post-season win. That was horrible. No a huge fan but it wasn't like he was failure back there.

So you are basically saying you swapped 1st round picks and traded away a second round pick for a back up?

Well at least it is a QB and did not waste a 3rd overall pick on a runningback who cant throw.

He was doing
