Default Shaun Alexander To Texans??

There seems to be a lot of smoke concerning Shaun Alexander and the Houston Texans on NFL Radio and other spots.

With the Seahawks signing Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett, the Seahawks have a crowded backfield and they look to drop Alexander and his contract.

Pat Kirwin indicated that Houston might be a likely spot for him either vie trade or picking him up after his outright release. The other possible spots for him to land are Chicago and Detroit.

Most seem to think the Texans might be the most likely because of the climate as well as the one cut slashing system employed by Kubes.

I think it'd be a good thing for us to see if there is anything left in the tank as long as it doesn't cost us big $$ unless he produces. A deal that is heavy in incentives that can be reached would be nice.

Go Texans

I'd love it if we signed him...as long as it was a short contract loaded with incentives.

What's to change?

You pick up a guy for peanuts that you only have to pay if he produces big time. If you want to draft a RB, you still do so. Essentially I envision a low risk deal that is a win-win for the Texans & Alexander.

If he can't regain his form, you cut bait and plug in the youngster from the draft.

So far this off season we have been the front runner for Turner, Dunn, and now Alexander.

And we have not talked to a single one of them.

With the draft as deep as it is in RB's. I'll be disappointed if we don't make a move for someone like Shaun and then take a RB in Round 2. You can get a quality back in round two and in theory, the Denver zone blocking scheme can make a stud out of backs that might not be all that and a bag of chips in other schemes.

Take CB in Round 1. Take RB in Round 2. Take OT in Round 3. RB and OT are very deep in this draft, so we ought to be able to find good value in rounds 2 and three if we do our homework.

I think Reeves can be a passable number three corner and with Dunta scheduled to be out, we need to get someone who can cover in round 1 and then take players in positions where the draft is deep in rounds 2 and 3.

Go Texans

It's not hard to figure out the typical destinations people float for running backs.

Which teams in the league have current backfields that are ridiculous?

Well then, maybe Shaun Alexander is going there.

We don't have a #2 unless I missed a story somewhere.

A RB will be taken in Round 3 or 4 most likely.

Taking Shaun Alexander with his salary would be a joke. That will not happen.

Now way we get Alexander in a trade. They're dumping him because of his contract combined with his lack of performance. I think it's a similar problem we had with Carr (not the same but similar). I think they end up releasing him and when they do I would take a look at him. Given the right price, I'd be all for it.

However, I would be in favor of Chicago signing him meaning they'd most likely pass on Mendenhall in the first round.

Herv & I were joking about Alexander joining the Texans in the Dunn thread, last week. Some joke.

Alexander is a native of the Cincinnati area and it wouldn't surprise me if he looked there first. I'm not sure how the Bengals feel about Rudi Johnson after his horrible '07 season. Maybe the Bengals cut him loose and we start a "Rudi to Houston thread" Why not.

Why would we go looking for an aging RB when we already have one?

Lets start afresh with the draft and see how Walker and Taylor work out.
