Most people I have spoken with agree that the Texans well either take a cornerback, running back, or a safety. But, at the the number 18th spot I was wondering why not consider Frank Okam?
In the 2006 NFL Draft I was hoping we'd grab Gabe Watson (6'4" 340-Lbs.) DT, a poor mans Haloti Nagata. Sure enough, we passed on him. In the 2007 Draft I wanted us to get Alan Branch but he was taken early in the 2nd round. So, I was wondering why not FINALLY get a big space-eater that can actually get after the QB. Maybe a guy like Frank Okam. I am saying this because I still think Kubiak won't draft a RB in the 1st round because there well be quality RBs later on. Frank Okam (Don't know if he fits our system) well give Amobi Okoye and Mario Williams a better chance at doing what they do best and Okam is a force to be dealt with which well only make our D-Line better. We all know how good the Ginats D-Line was and how handy it came during Super Bowl 42. Travis Johnson is a bust to me because I don't think he can play side-by-side to Amobi Okoye. So how about it guys, Frank Okam at 18th?

The guy is a plugger, no doubt.
But as a UT fan, I'm disappointed by how much he weightd in at. When you compare it to his weight though, his 40 doesn't look so bad anymore. |

I'd say no. I'd rather spend our 1st rounder on other positions. If it has to be on the DL I'd go for a pass rushing Defensive End. Okam would be nowhere near BPA and MIGHT fill a 'need' that is way down the list.
I agree with bah... if he's there with one of our other picks and the coaches like him, maybe. I'd much rather reach on an offensive lineman if it's not BPA, be that a left tackle or a guard than reach on a DT (Okam). |

Okam would be far from BPA alone at 18, but if you couple that with his lack of production at UT, along with his combine numbers not being stellar, I would be surprised if he goes in the first 3 rounds. I was against Branch last year. Strongly against him. When everyone had him in their top 5, I had him on my big board around 40. I was closer. The point being, we don't need a guy like this, at least not for what you are suggesting. At 18, you take an Okoye or a Tommy Harris. You do not take a underachieving, overweight, space eater to play in a 4-3 at 18.

There are rumors that Okam can become a team's bench, not bench player but the bench.

Um, no. He isn't even graded as a second rounder. I'd burn Reliant if they selected Okam at #18. Bet I wouldn't be alone.

In a word....no. I am a HUGE UT fan and not even I think he is worth a first round grade. I am not even sure he is a 3rd rounder right now. I suppose maybe in the 4th(depending what we do in FA and previous draft picks) but he is nowhere near a Haloti Nagata in terms of skill set.

I'd take him in the 3rd or 4th
If we can trade down and get Cialis Campbell or Lawerence Jackson in the 2nd, and Okam's fatass later, we would have a great young D-Line. |

No way man, Okam is one of the most overrated players in the nation.
