Jags to trade for Troy Williamson

The Vikings have agreed in principle to trade receiver Troy Williamson to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a second-day draft pick, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The trade cannot become official until the official start of the league year, Thursday at 11 p.m. CST.

Last week at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the Vikings gave Williamson's agent, David Canter, permission to seek a trade, and Canter insisted there was plenty of interest in Williamson, the seventh overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. Despite a disappointing 79 catches for 1,067 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons, Williamson intrigues teams because of his speed.

That's good news for the Texans on a couple of fronts. One, Williamson sucks and is heading to Jax on the recommendation from the guy who drafted him...former Viking HC and current Jags assistant Mike Tice.

Two, this takes a suitor of Texans free agent WR Andre Davis out of the market. It would be one thing to lose Davis, but losing him to a division rival would have been worse.

True. I hope it is a 3rd or 4th rounder. That would be a pretty nice little hit for the Jaguars.

I think AD is a Texan. He has had more success here than ever before. He has enjoyed it too much to risk leaving and it not working out wherever he goes.

I think the Texans have tried to trade for him every offseason since then too.

I agree, I just hope he doesn't ran past our secondary. I was never high on the guy, but for a 6th rounder I say the Jags got a good deal.
