18. Houston Texans - Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon: Unless they get a runner in free agency, say maybe Michael Turner, Stewart would make a lot of sense. He's a tough guy who will be a factor in the passing game as well. |

Huh, with Oakland having their pick between Glenn Dorsey, Sedrick Ellis, and Darren McFadden- I think they'd end up with one of the DT's. Of course I havn't been wrong about Oaklands 1st round pick since....2007
![]() I also would find it hard to believe Felix Jones would get selected before both Rashard Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart (and at #16) |

I am not sure why all the media thinks the Texans will draft a RB in the first round.
Using the Bronco's running/blocking scheme, that can supposedly plug any decent RB in, I don't think the Texans will draft and RB till at least the 3/4 round. The media continues to plug in who they think we should take, instead of doing a little homework and look at past drafts as to who we will probable take.

The only problem I see with it is that our OL isn't developed enough to consistently plug in decent 2nd day and Undrafted RB's for them to be successful.

Agree with you on Jones. 200 pounds is two hundred pounds. Sooner or later he will have to bang it between the tackles and pick up blitzes.

I'm not a fan of taking RBs early, honestly. It's always such a deep position where good ones can be had in the middle rounds.

If the Texans take a RB in the first round I'm good with that. I don't care as long as the guy they select is worthy of going in that round at that general area.
The Texans need a lot of things but they aren't just literally dying anywhere. Sure LT is a need. Sure CB is a need. Sure another LB to go alongside DeMeco is a need. We have lots of needs but we have answers at all of those spots (albeit very average answers) if we choose to go another way early. We can't plug all the holes in a single draft so as long as they fill one hole with a very good player in the first then I'm not going to worry about who they didn't pick. If they can get another starter in the 3rd I'm thrilled. Add one more on the second day and I believe this will have been one hell of a draft.

Well, if the draft plays out like this mock and the top 4 OTs and the top 3 CBs are off the board by the 18th pick, but Mendenhall/Stewart are still around, I would have no problem with taking either of them here (though I think Mendenhall is the superior player). And I'm normally a big believer in the fungibility of RBs. Phillips--who isn't even taken in this mock--is about the only other player I'd consider if picks 1-17 went as Prisco predicts. |

I'm totally against using our top pick on a running back. Backs are a commodity like a barrel of oil or a bushel of wheat or so many "board feet"
of lumber. Cover corners or OTs with the agility to handle pass rushers one on one or DEs who can put pressure on the QB are rare talents that teams should pay premium prices for. |

playing time missed and shorter careers. Now I know there's exceptions to what I'm saying, like we found a pretty decent CB in the 4th round of last years Draft. But generally speaking I think its valid. |

There is no "franchise" LT or CB at #18. Stewart imo opinion is a "franchise"type back. Mendenhall may be very, good. If Stewart is there, it would take a very good offer for me to want a trade down. If Stewart is gone and Atlanta will trade the twos for our 18, I'd do that. With the 3rd and 8th pick in 2nd many different scenarios are possible.
2nd round- 3rd pick: Talib CB 8th : Xavier Adibi OLB 3rd round : Matt Forte RB 4th round : Tony Hill LT 5th round : Darnell Terell plays CB & FS

And that Is
the point grass hopper. There is never going to be one at eighteen. Or twelve or fifteen. No one lets them go via free agencey. And when they do they cost you a one and a three. So where pray tell badboy is he going to come from ? Or are you projecting Salaam starting for the team into his forties ? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Sure there are, they just may not be there this year and they may not be ready to start game 1--or maybe they will. Only three play-off teams had 1st round LT's this year. 8 were 2nd rounders. Manning sure looked pretty happy with Ugoh this year.

What is your definition of a franchise LT or CB? Joseph Addi sure looks like the Colts franchise RB and Aaron Ross for the Giants sure looks like a nice CB for the Giants franchise which would make him their franchise CB.
Like Infantry pointed out, no one thought Ugoh was a franchise LT before the start of last season and he seems to be filling those shoes pertty nicely. So please enlighten us about this elussive franchise player that is not available as you say. Just because you want a RB drafted you show a biassed opinion on what is or what is not available.
