NFL rumors:Dolphins interested in Derek Anderson?

Although several reports have included Browns coach Romeo Crennel as one of the candidates to succeed ousted Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, the Dolphins have not yet asked the Browns for permission to interview him, according to an e-mail from Crennel's agent Joe Linta.

The Dolphins are meeting with Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano today in Dallas, and will interview Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Monday.

Sparano has worked with Parcells and GM Jeff Ireland in Dallas, but Frazier has no direct ties to Parcells. However, Frazier did play for the Bears in the 1980s when Ireland was a ball boy and his grandfather, Jim Parmer, worked in their personnel department.

Crennel is believed to be negotiating a three-year extension.

However, he did say earlier this week that Anderson, a restricted free agent, could be had for the right price.

Parcells described the Dolphins quarterback situation as one filled with, "volatility,'' and GM Jeff Ireland said that finding a quarterback this offseason was, "very high on the priority list.''

"You've got to have a quarterback. You look at the teams that are in the playoffs, everybody has a quarterback and those quarterbacks are playing at a high level, so it's going to be very high,'' Ireland said.

Ireland said he was, "high'' on Dolphins rookie quarterback John Beck last draft, but acquiring Anderson would surely be an upgrade.

"If anybody's interested in him, we'll just have to see how it goes," Crennel said. "Sometimes people can make you an offer and you can say, 'No, I think I'm going to stick with what I've got.' Sometimes they make you an offer and you say, 'Oooh!' So we'll see how it goes.

After what Anderson did this season, I wonder if the Browns would be ready to cut to Quinn

"You know how it works, man," Winslow said as the Browns cleaned out their lockers a day after falling short of the playoffs despite finishing 10-6. "We drafted (Quinn). He's probably going to play, so we'll see what happens. Derek's a great guy, but that's just the way this business works. You draft a guy, especially in the first round, he's playing."

The Browns gave their 2008 first-round draft choice to Dallas last April for the right to move back into the first round and select Quinn. The rookie from Notre Dame took his first NFL snaps in Sunday's 20-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers, charging onto the field to a loud ovation.

While Anderson was having his bruised right pinky finger X-rayed, Quinn drove the Browns to a field goal, looking sharp with three consecutive completions. He fired a potential touchdown pass to Winslow, who dropped it.

Quinn is a future star, the Browns think. What to do with Anderson is the question . He's a restricted free agent, which means they can keep him by matching any offer . They could sign him to a long-term deal, but do they want to put that kind of roadblock in Quinn's path?

Anderson, who said he hopes to return, is driving to Montana today, then home to Oregon. On the way, he'll probably contemplate his immediate future and wonder why 29 touchdown passes, one short of Brian Sipe's franchise record, were not enough to get all the fans on his side.

"Derek was slinging it," Winslow said. "This is a dynamic offense, but we still could have done more."

This would be a great trade for the Dolphins as long as they didn't have to sell the farm for him. If they could give up their 2 seconds like we did for Schaub then they could have a franchise qb.

That is because they do not have a viable option at QB, just like another offseason another RB for the Texans.

I would be a little surprised, but not shocked because John Beck was picked under a different regime. Parcells would want his people and players on the field, and Anderson does seem enticing. I wouldn't trade for the guy, but Beck looks a bit slow out there.

Considering that Marino retired in 1999, thats a lot of instability at the QB position.
