Sapp tells Raiders he's retiring, ending stellar career
Associated Press ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Warren Sapp announced his retirement on Thursday, ending the career of one of the best defensive tackles to play in the NFL. Sapp posted a two word message on his Web site, www.qbkilla.com, announcing his intention: "I'M DONE!" He had told teammates and coaches his plans after the season finale Sunday against San Diego. Sapp told the Contra Costa Times earlier Thursday that he had called Raiders owner Al Davis to give him the official news. Sapp, 35, was the quintessential "three technique" tackle during his 13-year career, lining up between the guard and tackle and splitting that gap. Few did it better than Sapp, who made seven Pro Bowls, won The Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award in 1999, and was a key cog in Tampa Bay's Super Bowl winning defense in the 2002 season. LINK Say what you will about the guy, but he was entertaining. Sort of a Sir Charles in pads.

Dude was a heckuva' football player. I wonder if he'll go into coaching? I'd love to see him work with Okoye and Travis for his DT techniques.

I can see another Seau type retirement coming. I think he's got some football left in him. IMO, he's tired of playing for a crappy team.
If this was the last year of his contract with the Raiders I think he'll be persued by many teams. I like Sapp not only for his talent on the field, but his personality off the field. Great guy and great attitude.

Best memories of Sapp are him and Favre jawing at each other facemask to facemask. You never got the feeling that it was ugly and that there was some mutual respect there.
Always good for a chuckle....

that guy would make a helluva coach. he and Ray Lewis are both credited with promoting players watching gametape on their own time and installing film rooms in their homes. he is a true student of the game, he likes to hear himself talk which helps in coaching, and he has that street cred that everyone talks about. not the bling bling street cred that is so overplayed but the real cred that is only gained by talking the talk and walking the walk. people listen to him and like him. I think both he and Ray Lewis could end up being some of the next great player turned coaches stories. There arent a lot of them but its always interesting regardless.

I hate Sapp. When I hate another pro player it usually means they are bad ass and I wish they were on my team.
Example: Karl Malone

I agree with those who say he would be a great coach. Maybe get some swagger on our DL?
