M. Williams = Pro Bowl Alternate. (wtf's that mean?)

I think in most cases its the QB's that decline to play just b/c they realize its somewhat meaningless and don't want to get injured....see Brees got injured last year during the pro bowl.

Also if I remember correctly Tom Brady was actually ahead of Vince Young last year but declined to go, probably cuz he new that him not being top 3 was BS? so he just decided not to even go. so VY i guess was originally 5 then Rivers was injured? and didn't play.

Anybody remember Sean Taylor laying out the Buffalo Kicker!!?? sheesh.

Now, Mario, here's the deal: The coach of the AFC team will select a need player, and that player must be a defensive end, cornerback, linebacker or long snapper.

You're a defensive end who has played a little linebacker this season, so you could fill two roles if necessary.

I don't know if you've looked ahead, but there's a good chance that Sunday at the RCA Dome, you'll be playing against the coach who'll select that need player.

If leads the conferance and possibly the NFL in sacks, then I'd be extremely disappointed that the coach does not call him up and takes him to Hawaii. Everyone knows he got shafted, so I see no reason why the coach wouldn't take him.

He's going to be a free agent at the end of the season. He won't want to risk injury that would cost him millions.

There are FA's going to the Probowl every year. IMO, a FA should go to the PB and use it to sell himself to his peers. That's all the PB is, a huge social gathering for NFL players and coaches.

Pro Bowl Alternate is kinda like winning Honorable Mention. It's not that bad. Whether or not Mario should be in the Pro Bowl is a valid argument but just being named as an Alternate is still acknowledgement from the NFL world that Mario's progress was duly noted and that it was appreciated and admired.

By being named an alternate, Mario is getting respect and its probably better for him to still have that carrot on a stick in front of him for NEXT year. He may even get a chance to play in the game if some players drop out. At the end of the day, if he can start next year like he is finishing this year and continue to show his endurance/durability he will make the Pro Bowl next year and the Texans may finally realize their postseason dreams.
