Default Re: Were you at the 2006 draft party?

It is a LIE that everyone at the draft party booed the pick.

Some people did, a lot of people didn't. The media chose to focus on the boo-ers.

This is what I wrote about this subject last year:

Texans Under Pressure: Mario Williams or David Carr

The premise was that though Williams would be under scrutiny, Texans fans would show some patience with him. That the Texan that fans had absolutely no more patience for was David Carr.

This is the picture that most of the newspapers/internet folks showed from the draft party:

This is the picture that is in Getty Images but was rarely shown:

An excerpt from what I wrote:

Quote:
Most of the people I spoke to were happy about the pick, and I had one person tell me that he saw camera guys looking for the most vocal critics to put on camera but didn't want to record people supporting the pick.

This summer, the Texans held an All Access event that allowed fans to tour the stadium and get autographs. Gary Kubiak spoke to the crowd after the even and introduced some of the players. Mario Williams got the loudest cheers, and people chanting his name. You will not read anything about that in national publications because it doesn't fit the thesis of most sportswriters' articles.
A lot of fans who knew about that 2-14 team couldn't have been too upset with additional help on defense because the defense that year was horrible.
