Default Blank Questions Petrino

Strange question for an owner to ask his first year coach.

"Amid the wave of college head coach vacancies the past few days, Falcons coach Bobby Petrino said Monday that he does not want to get into any "speculation and rumors" about leaving his current job to coach again in college next season.

Team owner Arthur Blank did.

"The record's not going well, he came out of college and plus, with what happened with Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban, it was a normal question, so I asked him about it," Blank said.

Think Blank is ready for a change?

wow, that's pretty ballsy by Blank. I think he may be trying to send a subtle message to Petrino that he may want to head back to college because Blank doesn't see Petrino making things happen in the NFL. For Blank to mention Petrino in the same sentence as failed college-to-NFL coaches like Saban and Spurrier is a slap in the face to Petrino.

I think if I was Petrino's agent, I may advise him to listen to any forthcoming offers from the prospective likes of LSU, Nebraska, Michigan, UCLA, etc. I don't think Georgia Tech is an attractive destination due to it being in-state from the Falcons. That would be a wierd marriage and probably not a great idea.

great find, cup

Generally, I would say that a coach should be given at least 3 years. However, Petrino is a somewhat different story. He has not only displayed inexperience, but sheer incompetence. Why on Earth would you bench Harrington during the best season of his career for a washed up Byron Leftwich? More so, why would you continue to give Leftwich chances when it's evident that he's washed up? Their offense is ugly, their defense is ugly, the whole team is ugly and poorly coached.

Funny I thought this was was a thread for _____ question for Petrino.

Mine would been WTF were you thinking leaving Louisville for Atlanta in the first place?!

Either way it's not going to bother me if he gets fired or not i thought it was a dumb hiring first day for both sides. IMO it'd prolly be best for both sides Petrino is in over his head at that situation and Blank really needs to start from scratch again with someone who knows the Ins and Outs of building a successful team. That's just my 2 cents though.

He went into Atlanta with about as much offseason distraction as humanly possible. Without Mike Vick....the Falcons wouldn't be as exciting. Then throw in they no longer had Matt Schaub....

The falcons were a team heading downhill. The good news is that they are basically trying to rebuild the team up...they had a pretty good draft last year and again will have a high first rounder and 2 2nd round picks in the top half of the 2nd round. They are going to get 6 quality players out of the 1st and 2nd round this year and last.

The NFC South is a pretty pathetic division in my opinion. Give him three years and he'll have won the division once. He'll get them there.

Could be confusing.

I should have more thought into the thread title...

Easy answer: He is tanking the season so he can pick his boy Brian Brohm in the draft.

To a lot of them, getting to the NFL is like crossing the finish line. That's why so many of the college coaches who move to the NFL fail...

Well, if that be the case, then I would say his character should be called into question. I've always said that, when your team is having trouble winning games and is obviously out of the playoff picture, you play to improve your team. Not your draft position. Watching Kris Brown intentionally wiff that chip shot a few years back still urks me to this day.

no. way. coaches don't just "cross the finish line" when they get to the NFL. these guys devote wayyy too much of their lives to their profession, they're not coasting because they get to the next level.

Yeah, he wanted to get to the next level soooo much that he QUIT 13 games in...

Nothing like sticking it out and succeeding. Looks like he crossed the finish line and went back to what he enjoys, college coaching. Kinda what I thought would happen.
