Ron Dayne's Thoughs (his big run)

When they did the replay of his little scamper. I was watching Daynes eyes. Before the run it looked like he was thinking "I've had a good day, but I bet those posters will still say my ypc is weak." Then after "That oughta shut them up for now"

Made up for his dancing in the back-field on 4th and 1.

Still, I'd rather have Dayne than Reggie Bust.

No matter how much we hate on Dayne, he had a good day today.

Maybe Dayne is just a much better back in the second half of the season. It happened last year, and so far so good this year.

Dayne came through for us today. He really did. But don't count on him to keep up the act. We still need a RB.

my thoughts on dayne...I kept thinking How was this guy College footballs leading rusher? Ricky Williams was a more explosive runner.. and I kept watching dayne and he is a big guy but slow very slow..and very disappointed in the 4th-1 play

however, I did think about how he is pretty sure handed and don't make many mistakes, he showed good moves on that big run and that cutback and he isn't costing us a lot of money.

nothing personal against Dayne and he is what he is, but just not as explosive for a back that I would like for this team.. maybe I am greedy

Dayne is a back who needs a lot of carries to get going and, I suspect he needs to get them week in and week out. At the end of last season I was hoping that the Texans would draft a back. Adrian Peterson was who I wanted but of course I had no idea he'd blow up like he has. If they couldn't get a back then I wanted them to go another year with Dayne as the starter and give him a good 300+ carries this year.

They went and brought in Green however and in so doing put Dayne back in the "splitting carries" mode that he's been grossly ineffective in for the majority of his career. Now Green is gone (Who are they kidding, he should be the 15th Texan in IR right now) and Dayne is finally starting to get rolling.

He'll never be Earl Campbell but we should thank our good fortune that he's not Reggie Bush either.

It helps to have a good o-line. Chester Taylor rushed for 164 yards today using the holes created by Steve Hutchinson. They didn't miss a lot without AP.

Don't really get why people are hating on him on the 4th and 1 play. It was pretty clear to me that our OL got manhandled and he was forced to try and go outside after guys were closing in there too.

I was at the game so really couldn't see perfectly but from what I saw it was on our OL. We won in the trenches on both sides of the ball (overall during the whole game) and that's why we won, imo. But if you don't convert on 4th and 1...9 times out of 10 its on the OL even though Dayne was dancing

He's a big, fat runningback. Given the situation he is supposed to run into the manhandled line and push things foward for a yard.

That's exactly what I was thinking when the guy sitting next me was griping..saying 'just run up the middle, run into your guy!'...I turned to him and said..."Yea! Why isn't Charles Spencer out there?" Could you imagine if Eric Winston went down...that would be devastating.

echemandu is a young back and got hit pretty good to jar that ball loose. It happens all the time. If it happened all the time that may be a different story.

Agreed. Seeing as how we seem to be emerging as a passing team, the best thing we can look for in a RB is reliability. Like him or not, Dayne is never injured and rarely fumbles (I think he only has 5 or 6 in his 8 year career), easily the most reliable RB on our roster. I hate to jinx it, but it actually seems like he is finally progressing. This is the first time that I have seen him have back to back solid outings. Keep it up, Ron.

I don't think he really got hit at all on that play. He definitely didn't get hit hard, he just coughed that ball up. If I had a DVR I would know but from what I recall it was just an "ole" give away.
