Default EPSN's Mid-Season Grades

I didn't see this posted before.. If so, my apologies

Quote:
Houston Texans (4-5)
Right Answers: There is progress here. Matt Schaub is clearly the answer at quarterback and makes everyone around him better when he's in the lineup. The defense has some young studs to build around, and as a group, it's far superior to where it was a year ago. The future is bright in Houston.
Wrong Answers: The present is not so bright, however. WR Andre Johnson's injury set this offense back and the running game and offensive line remain works in progress. Schaub has been brutalized of late and has missed time with assorted injuries. The Texans desperately need to find an upgrade at cornerback to start opposite Dunta Robinson, and the young defense is starting to show some growing pains.

What's Next? The Week 10 bye is long overdue. The Week 16 and 17 games against Indianapolis and Jacksonville are daunting, but the rest of the schedule isn't brutal. Schaub's and Johnson's returns will ignite a passing attack that could become very formidable. This is a potential contender in 2008.

Link please.

I'd say thats a fair analysis. The line play has to get better if we are to become a contender. This teams ability to win the Turnover and Time of Possession battles has to change (36.43 minute loss to Tenn with 6 turnovers & 34.12 minute loss to Atlanta were brutal).

Like i've been saying, we are on the road to better days. It's a slow climb to the top of the mountain, but we are getting there. Give us a year or two to learn how to win!

My fingers are crossed. I'm guilty of over-buying into their 2-0 start this year. The Texans need a little depth all around but first thing's first, I'll take the espn evaluation and run with it.

Not the same, but found on ESPN.com

Houston Texans (4-5)

Surprise: Wide receiver Kevin Walter has emerged as a reliable target with injuries sidelining Andre Johnson. He leads the team with 43 receptions for 545 yards.

Disappointment: Mario Williams. He's looking more like a solid defensive end who will never be great. Think Courtney Brown without the injuries.
Prediction: 7-9.

The future probably is bright, but it still looks some ways off. Prior to Dunta's injury we needed help at LT, C, RB, OLB, FS, and CB before we could become a legitimate playoff threat (either that or a transfer into the pathetic NFC) - now we need even more help at CB.

If you look at where we've improved over the last year and a half, you can see we're certainly better on the DL, at QB and have a deep WR corps, but at the current rate of needs-filling, that's still another two off seasons before we've got a playoff ready bunch of starters... and then bearing in mind how injury prone we seem to be, there's the depth issue to consider.

However, it's not bleak. We've got a lot more flexibility in free agency now that some of the C&C era mistakes are off the books. We've got a legitimate QB for the first time, and finally a vertical game that other teams are envious of. We've got decent foundations on Offense and Defense, and if we continue down the path we're on, I think we'll finally have a team we can be proud of.
