You seriously need to get over the draft and the Texans not drafting your girlfriend.

You are blinded by your hatred.

From everything I have read, I think we come back with our offense more healthy than we have seen it since week 2 - Schaub, Andre Johnson, and Green should be back. I think we found some additional potentional weapons while these guys have been out, so assuming the line can hold up, I feel pretty good about the offense going into this second half of the season.

The problem is, I don't know if it will matter with out Dunta on the field. The defense as a whole and the secondary in particular have not played well. I am excited about the potential of Bennett, but he will have growing pains. Faggins has been exposed and teams will continue to target him when he is on the field.

We have two weeks to prepare for the next game, so I am wondering what we can do from a player or scheme stand-point.
You can argue that Dunta Robinson was the most important player for the Texans.

At least on the offensive side of the ball, you can try to scheme around your deficits. They run a system offense, that can take advantage of player's special abilities but is plug and play.

On the defensive side of the ball, I am not very optimistic. There is little in what either DC Richard Smith or secondary coach Jon Hoke have shown as creating schemes that make players better, or provide them the best opportunties to succeed. The secondary was already thin, and this makes them Nicole Ritchey before prego thin.

The best way to scheme for the Texans defense for the rest of the year is to keep the defense off of the field but playing ball hogging offense. Green may be back, but he isn't likely to be right all season. Basically, the hope of the Texans is riding on Ron Freaking Dayne.

GM Rick Smith is going to have to do some genius looking to find somebody to help at corner.

I have never been so bummed after a Texans win.

I'm thinking we should give all the DBs #38 . That would confuse the QB as to pick on .

Personally, I think this is the best short-term fix. I had to rely on the game cast to follow the game, but it seemed that even with Bennett on the field, the game plan was still to target Faggins. You have to put your four best players out there and I just hope that this combination is better than the Faggins/ Hutchins combination.

Scheme wise, there has to be something we can do. In my mind, you do everthing to prevent the big play, even if it means that we get picked apart underneath.

Definitely. Rely on Demeco and the LB's in the middle. Bennett and Hutchins at CB and Demps/Boulware/Brown at Safety would be nice. I'm sure we'll start the Fag though. He's seriously going to lose two more games by himself though.

God bless Dunta during his surgery and/or rehabilitation. Dunta was arguably our best player and probably most beloved. He will be missed and I thought that Kubiak and the Texans really rallied around Dunta going down and the team started playing with more heart and won one for Dunta.

as for life without Dunta, the team just has to continue to overcome and fight through the injuries. A lot of guys really stepped up and I was glad to see Bennett play through some pain as well. Faggins was toast as always but we have some talented guys that havent been given an opportunity yet. Demps seemed to make the most of his opportunity and could boulware be far behind if Hutchins is moved to #3 CB.

The sad thing is that we knew where we were weak at (FS, C, CB) before this past draft and outside of Bennett we really didn't attempt to address any of those spots and were now paying for it. I am always for drafting the BPA but we really need to get a FS and a Center within the first 4 rounds this year....and now we pretty much ahve to spend our 1st round pick on a cornerback because of the uncertainty of Dunta and the current lack of even one proven defensive back.

We are well on our successful run for high draft picks. We get Asante Samuel in F/A for $42m for a four year deal, Bennett will start. Dunte may be back. We then draft a LT in a trade down, sign a FS with our new 2nd, draft a CB in 3rd, RB in 4th cause we've done pretty well historically and BPA the rest. McKinney/ White will be our centers and Eche our starting RB supported by Green who will get 90 yards in first quarter and then hobble to the bench to be replaced by our 4th rounder who will become the new DDW! I am so optimistic. Now watch these guys win 4 of the next 7 and ruin my plans. (Sarcasm).

This may not be too far off. In two weeks, Schaub, AJ, Dayne and Green should all be better. I will also incude Jacoby in that. We might just light up the score board.

OK, our secondary without dunta might still be better than the Saints secondary. With Andre , Schaub, etc back on offense, I think this game is highscoring and who ever has the ball last probably wins.

If we can control the clock, avoid stupid mistakes (turnovers/penalties), and score some TDs in the red zone, we can take the pressure off of our defense.

We only have one team with a losing record left on our schedule, so it's going to be tough going no matter how we look at it. But I think if our guys can focus and keep from beating themselves we stand a chance in 6 of the last 7 games.

This thing with D-Rob already has the deja vu feeling of the injury that Charles Spencer suffered in the sense that recovery/rehab could stretch over multiple seasons. And the scariest thing is, we really don't have any end in sight yet for Spencer, who at one time we hoped could actually help us this year.
I've been critical of the progress Kubiak has made in '07, or the lack of
progress, in spite of injuries that all teams incur. But after QB, your OLT and shutdown CB are arguably the 2 most key positions on the team. Really crappy luck for the Texans to have these sort of injuries happen with these these 2 young, very valuable players at such important positions and its got to be factored in to discount any expectations one could have for the Texans
2007 season.
