David Carr can't run away from trouble even when he looks like he has escaped the collasped pocket. How does he compare against as other QB's in the league when flushed? A good example is Donavan McNabb tonight against the Cowboys.

Carr was real jumpy, and for good reason, yesterday. I forget how many fumbles and INTs he had, but his composure was very flimsey. He may have
been having flash backs from his record setting 2002 sack season.

Carr is like in the top 5 in rushing QBs in the league and throws above average on the run. There are maybe three or four QBs in the league who have a better combination of running ability, passing ability on the run and escapability. The only definates are McNabb, Vick and Culpepper. Carr is in the top of the 2nd cut behind those guys.

McNabb is more athletic and more experienced.

Carr is a better blend of passing and running than Vick will ever be. Vick is not even a blend really...just running.

Also I believe Carr's ankle is bothering some.
It also matter's who they are running from at the time. McNabb against Dallas look much better than McNabb against Pittsburgh.

Carr also had at least 2 out 4 on top of him when he was flushed out of the pocket. This left those in short zones to apply pressure while still having all receivers covered.

He's 3rd among QB's in rushing. 1) Vick 2) Culpepper 3) Carr 4) McNabb.

It's tough to step up in the pocket when it keeps collapsing up front. Nonetheless Carr was making some horrible, horrible throws. Let's hope he rebounds sunday night and shoots the lights out.

Usually a comment like this shouldn't be responded to, but can you really not see the difference between McNabb and CArr? Let's see, McNabb 4.5 speed, Carr 4.7 range. Carr more of a drop back passer his entire career, McNabb has been rolling around the pocket since birth. McNabb MAKES defenses miss, Carr, he better hope the player has a bad leg or eyesight. Eagles, good-great o-line, Texans, Wade hurt and a "rookie" left tackle. Tackles usually contain the outside rush so you have time to scramble, if not, your brains are. Did you see the game on Sunday? Carr didn't revert back to not knowing how to play the game, be was running for his life, due to the horrible pass protection!

Th last word in the above post is key...IT WAS AGINST THE COWBOYS. Maybe the worst D-line in the league, a crappy *** secondary(Mr. Roy Williams included), and McNabb is, has been, and always will be more of a running type QB than Carr.

What's nest people goin' to start asking Carr to split defenders ala Vick?

McNabb is a better athlete. He was an option QB at Syracuse. They are different types of QB's. Why can't Bettis juke like Sanders? Why can't can't Shockey block like Brunner?

What McNabb did last night was insane, I don't think any other QB in the league could pull off some of the plays he did last night. I don't think any other QB in the league could scramble for 15 seconds and then complete a 60 yard pass.

Before this weekend Carr was third in yards rushed by a qb. Personally black and white has nothing to do with the situation nor does just speed. There are so many more body mechanics needed to avoid a tackle besides speed not to mention the mental aspect of knowing where your tacklers are and making the right decisions.

3rd - I definitely agree with you about the O line situation, they make the determining factor on whether the qb even has a chance to run.

Pocket presence and feel has been one of Carr's weaknesses. He's improving this year despite what's happened the last two weeks. Still, he's the kind of QB who needs more room than some of the other more nimble QBs (McNabb, Favre, Vick et al) to escape a collapsing pocket. He does not have quick feet, nor has he perfected a shuffle inside the pocket (like a Tom Brady) where he can jitterbug his way out of a tight space. If you watch him close, he takes longer strides when he moves around in the pocket and the result is that he can't change direction as quickly and he needs slightly more time to escape pressure. Once/if he breaks free from a collapsing pocket he has good escape speed and is very mobile as we have all seen.

Bottom line....you need exceptional blocking, not just half-arse blocking. If that is consistant...Carr can dance around, jump around, and do the Macarena before he throws to an open receiver and still have plenty of time. He took a hard hit this past week and completed the pass while knowing he was destined for a hard hit, yet he got up fine, and played on. Watch the other QB's, and compare the difference in versatility and agileness that Carr has in his JR. yrs as opposed to others. The key is good blocking and our offensive blocking these past 2 games was nill...when Carr has great blocking...he does wonders. So let's not criticize his performance as an individual but as a team performance. If the rest of the team is not there, he has to fend for himself..and his stats in that scenario are not that bad. Carr has made us proud so far but this is nothing compared to what he will do in the very near future. He is already placing right on up there and in some cases above with the veteran greats after only 2 1/2 yrs. If you don't believe it...go to NFL.com and check out his stats. Good things come to those who wait. You take some bad punches on the way to the top. It's right on the money....and just keep in mind that overall...we just keep climbing up. As AJ said...the best fans come when your down. If you're going to ride the band wagon...stay on it through thick and thin. It's not all about Carr, remember it is a TEAM. I have season tickets and I get frustrated too, but by next game time....forget last week, let's kick butt this week. If you really love this team, when they are down, you should support them even harder because this is when they need our support the most. If you're a parent, uncle, etc. and you go to a game and your child loses or has a bad day....the best thing you can do is offer the most moral support you can give afterwards and before the next game. Show up with the best attitude you can give them. This team will go far and make us proud. IT ALREADY HAS! Let's not forget that. Remember, we were just playing for first in the division and this is a very tough division
