Default Power ranking compilation

Not that it really means anything, but it does make for some discussion fodder.

Fox Sports

Texans - #15, previously 16

Houston, winners in four of their previous six games with Jacksonville, came out on the wrong end of a 37-17 battle with the Jags on Sunday. The running game continued to struggle, as Ahman Green and Samkon Gado combined for only 59 yards on 20 carries. The defense — stout thus far this season — got lit up by Jacksonville. The Texans gave 457 yards, with a head-scratching 244 of those coming on the ground. Houston was 1-5 in the red zone. Ravaged by injuries and still relatively inexperienced, the 3-3 Texans face division rival Tennessee next weekend.

ESPiN

Texans - #20, previously 16

Let's see, there are problems with the red-zone offense. Problems with the running game. Dumb penalties. Missed blocks. That shine on the Texans' season is starting to fade.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerr...on=2007&week=7

CBS Sportsline

Texans - #17, previously 14

Without Andre Johnson, they just don't have the ability to stretch a defense. The run defense had a tough go against the Jaguars.

Pro Football Weekly

Texans - #15

Where’s that great run defense they showed early this season?

We are way too high. For once, I agree with ESPN. We deserve to be ranked at around 18-20

Fox Sports was dead on with this statement:

"Houston was 1-5 in the red zone. Ravaged by injuries and still relatively inexperienced, the 3-3 Texans face division rival Tennessee next weekend."

Maynot be our year this year; but sure are better than day 1.

Texans had better get it together, We should beat the Teetons Vince or not and Andre or not. They need to play football for 4 quarters. And if you do not, sit on the bench cause there is more out there who want the job. And that goes for Matt on down to Petey. There is no room for lazy play and that is what I saw on Sunday. Matt had trouble hitting a reciever and that is something that has been there since he got here, He throws high or behind. He has got to work on getting the ball to the reciever. Green needs to step up and play cause we refuse to bring up anyone to fill his shoes (thats on you Gary). Darius would love to get a look and what have we got to lose. Petey has got to take a seat on the bench. he is so costly on coverage that we could put just about anybody out there and they would look better. I know Gary wants to keep his composure but that last game was worth a coach getting tossed. The officials need to be fired. They are not the reason we lost but come on, it was like the Jags had 14 or 15 men out there. Gary must also learn how to call plays. A QB draw is not going to work when they stack the line on the goal line, Chester might have missed a block but Matt got touched by more than 1 guy. Running on plays with 20 or more yards for the first is rediculous. We have a lot of improvement and it starts with the Coach. There was a reason Shanny had him as a coordinator. Get it together Gary, This is football not tiddly winks.

First of all I believe the majority of the blame for the lack of a running game in our situation belongs to our OLine. I know it has been stated before about Darius Walker, I don't think he can pick up a block very well yet and might get our QB killed. Until he learns the plays and protection we won't see him on the field. Not that it is all his fault, shoot he was cut in training camp only to be brought back later. He missed some valuable learning time and only the coaches know how hard he is working to catch up. When he is ready I think he will get a chance just like the other young guys - White at center, Studdard at guard, we will see more Bennett at CB, I just hope they are really pressing these guys to get ready to play because we could use them.

I'm I the only who not longer cares about the "Power Rankings"? If you are not one of the 12 teams in the playoffs, does it really matter if some blow hard thinks you were the best of the rest?

I just think its interesting to see where we are perceived to be in the national media.

Last year, we probably would have been number 28 or 29 even if we were playing lights out. Now we're perceived as "improved" and, as such, you can see this in the rankings even though we've stunk up the place the past few weeks.

In short, I think its an odd turn of events over the past 12 months that most of us would probably look at this and say "Wow, we're actually overrated" as opposed to last year (especially late-season) when we might have said "Woah, we're better than [insert lousy team name here]."

Where were the good rushing offenses that the Texans would face? Looks like for the most part, they were on the teams the Texans lost to. Maybe its not a deplorable run defense as much as it is facing better running offenses.

4 Jacksonville Jaguars
5 Indianapolis Colts
9 Carolina Panthers
18 Miami Dolphins
21 Atlanta Falcons
30 Kansas City Chiefs

Based on Yards/Game and taken from NFL.com's stats.

Upcoming games:

6 Tennessee Titans
13 San Diego Chargers
3 Oakland Raiders

Schaub is doing this mostly without Andre Johnson and Jacoby Jones and very little running game. And his first season as a starter.

Imagine what could happen if he had more help. He needs to survive this time without getting killed because no running game can eventually get you murdered. Especially facing the Titans defense.

Those ratings that say no AJ = no vertical game haven't really been paying attention. No AJ makes it harder in the red zone, and makes it harder to bust big plays after the vertical throw, and doesn't suck up secondary players to shade his way.

That Brady QB rating is just plain sick after 6 games. Schuab is doing very well and once he has more than a year of experiance at it he will be a consistant top tier QB. HOFer............doubt it, but he will be great to have on our team.
