Default Warren threatens Big Ben

What a moron....

BEREA, Ohio Gerard Warren, aka "Big Money," is ready to give up some of it to hand rookie Ben Roethlisberger his first loss.

Warren, the Cleveland Browns' four-year veteran defensive tackle, threatened the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, vowing to "go across his head" and saying he didn't care if it cost him a $50,000 fine from the NFL.

"Hey, it'll be well worth it," Warren said. "They're protected in this league.

"Yeah, we're going across his head, regardless of cost. That's what we get paychecks for. You have to pay the cost to be the boss. You want to be the boss man on the field Sunday."

Asked to demonstrate what he was talking about, Warren cocked his elbow and raised and pointed to his forearm.

"One of these right here," he said.

"A forearm in the noggin?" he was asked. "Right in the throat, how about that?" Warren said.

Going into Sunday's game, Roethlisberger is 6-0 as a starter. He has tied the NFL record for consecutive wins by a rookie quarterback to start his career set by ex-Steeler Mike Kruczek in 1976.

It was hard to tell how serious Warren was about doing Roethlisberger harm because he injected comments like: "It's more of a mental than a physical. Rattling his head."

"We want to be on his head, too, not just in it. If we can't be on it, we'd rather be in it," Warren said. Another example of his mixed message was: "Not necessarily knock him out of the game, I said go across his head a time or two. There's a difference."

Warren was given opportunities to back down. Told his remarks sounded malicious he said, "This game is all about being malicious and violent."

When it was suggested that he was talking about Roethlisberger's head, he said: "One rule they used to tell me, 'Kill the head and the body's dead.' "

When reporters were asked to leave the locker room, Warren was shouting that phrase.

I don't ever like to hear stuff like this. Just play the game, be a man, if you can't win by the rules you don't deserve to win.

No Steelers fan here but now I'd like to see the Browns get rolled.

Default haa...

he won't actually do it. it's just a scare tactic to try to shake the seemingly unshakeable big ben. football is a game of intimidation and the media isn't overlooked as a tool for that.

Jaguar fans remember Warren and the shot he put on Mark B a couple years back... it was like one of the first plays of the game and Warren leveled him after an INT that Stacy Mack let go thru his hands... he missed most of the rest of that game... I hope the Steelers o-line take some notes from Denver.... It shows you the class of the Browns staff to allow him to still play after making statements like that.

Are there any match-ups in the NFL where love is actually lost?

I agree there. He just called out the quarterback that the Steelers linemen protect. There is extra motivation now. It cannot be considered a trap game anymore.

Yep, the guy with 14 career sacks in 4 years after being a 3rd overall pick of a draft surely has the right to talk because he is surely going to get to the QB...

its no big deal, really just trying to pump himself and grab the spotlight. how many of you out there have played competitive sports? this stuff starts early(even grade school) in ones athletic career, my guess Gerrard Warrens been up to tricks like this years before his NFL career.
gamesmeship, headlines, selling tickets promoting the game, the NFL should not fine him but reward him for the increased TV viewership.
As far as Big Ben is concerned the players on the field will take care of any issues that may arise, Big Ben will be fine and the Steelers will be a perfect 7-0 with him as a starter.
Vinny is right about one thing, thanks to Warren he just put a big bullseye on himself and motivated the Steeler linemen.

well look at it this way it's up to the steelers o-line to protect big ben...with the steelers being the most physical team in the nfl i have no doubt that he will be protected

He said he wasn't trying to take him out of the game. All he wants to do is let him know he's there and that he better be ready to be hit.

However, the way Warren went about saying this is completely wrong. It's an embarrassment to the game for a guy to call out a QB or anyone for that matter and bring attention to himself. It's a team game.

Little tricks and cheap shots go on the entire game. Elbows thrown in piles. A little slam here or there occurs. Twisting and pulling is dominant. The game is meant to be physical, and Warren was talking about that. I don't think he'll do anything really dirty or illegal. I think he'll just give the rookie some extra punishment.

Not only is he a target for the o-line of the Steelers, but he is also a target for the NFL now. It doesn't matter what he does or to whom...they'll be watching and nail him twice as hard.

At times QB's get way too much protection with the rules. It's like going to war and telling people you can't drop bombs, launch missiles, or things like that at the general...only shoot at him in the open.

So exactly how much protection should a QB get?

They just showed on the CBS pregame show a fight that occured BEFORE the game.

Wm. Green of the Browns said Joey Porter spit on him. They said the league was reviewing the tape of the fight and possible suspensions could come down before the game.

I think if somebody spit in my face I might be a bit upset too.

They should definitely be protected, but some rules need to be turned down a little and the defense allowed a little more slack.

I heard on the radio that Warren had only one tackle and never sniffed Big Ben.

Wow. He actually made a tackle. Maybe all the hype did help his game.
