LZ should have prefaced it by stating that he's definitely the "Too Cool for School" type...the guy annoys the hell outta me.

I love LZ. Here's some reasons:

a. Funny
b. He got me watching Flight of the Conchords.
c. In a niiiiice and sometimes overly emotional Houston media, he really does try to talk straight about stuff. Sometimes the comrades can't handle it.
d. He was nice enough to invite me to be a guest in studio on his radio show. It's fun taking calls and a fun life experience. So I am biased.

In any event, I don't think any of his categories refer to me.

Some people think that you can't be a face-painter or whatever derrogatory term some use to describe people who show up to the event of an NFL game in various gear and still try to be an educated fan about your team.

You can be completely nuts about your team, but still strive to know what the truth is about that team, no matter how painful it sometimes is. Trying to learn as much as you can about the team makes the game more interesting. And you can do that without heaping derision on those who aren't the same sort of fan as you.

For me....

Watching football on the couch is fun.

Watching football of a team you are a fan of and you are very familiar with is tons of fun. Especially with 70,000 fans losing their minds.

The Pessimist

Nobody likes pessimists but they are amongst us in our everyday life and sometimes we see them when we look in the mirror. Hey, we all have our issues.

The Pessimist will tell you in a heartbeat that he just knew the team was going to stink after a loss in week 1 and he rarely, if ever, has anything positive to say about the home team. To be honest, you generally doubt whether or not the Pessimist is even a fan of the team.

Some might think the Pessimist fits into the "Too Cool for School" category but not really. While that group is more objective with their criticism, the Pessimist seems to revel in the misfortune of the hometown team and is quick with a call to the post game show or the morning talk show when the team loses. He can tell you what all the problems are but wouldn't dare offer a solution because what fun would it be if the team started to win?

The Pessimist also scours the Internet for negative things about the hometown team that national writers may have written so they can further their agenda of tearing down the team. Some Pessimists actually fit into another subset that we all know all too well... the Bandwagon Jumper. Once things get going good, they are the first to put the team's jersey back on.

This group is different than the Eternal Optimist because they have a strong passion for the team as well but they aren't blind to the team's shortcomings. Unlike the Pessimist, when this group complains about something that the team is doing, it is just because they want the team to be the best they can be.

So who is Too Cool for School on here?
Too Cool for School

Typically this fan is not only condescending but also unusually negative. On the positive side, they tend to be more objective about their hometown team and they aren't afraid to call it like they see it - even if you couldn't possibly absorb the brilliance of their statement.

I agree. I was just playing along with the spirit of the article.

I cheer from the heart and analyze from the head. These two facets are often at odds with each other, too.

Diehard, all go, no quit, unwavering, fiercly loyal, can't get enough info about my team, can re-watch games over and over, dream about Sundays, go into depression when it's our bye week, and get goose bumps right before kickoff every single week. You might sum that up as "Hardcore".




Since I didn't see that as a choice, I will go with "everday fan", at least it is in the same area code.

I should have read all the descriptions before voting. I put my self down as Optimist, but I think I am more a "Everyday Fan".
