Post One Blog Entry

This is from my blog. I figure since no one reads it there, maybe someone will read it here.

From Baby Steps to Leaps

It's seems last year and actually into this year's preseason we were taking baby steps. Somehow, we all missed the memo. With these last two games we went from last place finishers to maybe wild card winners. Unless we beat the Colts this week, which would mean we would have first place, and it would be ours to lose. But let me not get carried away.

A defensive line unit that had its shares of problems and heat for the past couple of years are now looking like one of the top in the NFL. Amobi Okoye is growing up faster than anyone thought, getting 2 sacks and a forced fumble Sunday. Travis Johnson was out due to injury, but it was something he says he could have "played on". TJ's replacement, Killings, was a presence on the field. Mario Williams was too, he was constantly double teamed which probably led to Akoye's sacks. This defensive line is certainly going to be special.

Our defense is in the top 10, for real this time. Last year and at the beginning of this year we used "We were a top 10 defense for the last 10 games of the 2006 season" as a reason we might beat the next opponent. Well, we can throw that out the window because we've been one for the season, even if the season has only been 2 games long.

While we may only be in the middle of the pack with total offense (averaging about 15th place between the categories), its still somethieng we've never felt before as a franchise. Matt Schaub is throwing more touchdowns than interceptions, we have a running game with Green behind Schaub and Leach, and Andre Johnson is 4th in the league in receiving yards and tied for 4th in receptions. He might fall behind because there's a chance he might not play this week.

There's a reason I posted this a day late. I wanted to see the reaction at my school. Last year and the year before it, I was the only person to wear my Texans shirts and jerseys at school. Now, I'm not a fan of the the fairweathered fan, but I could see a significant difference in the number of jerseys around school. I counted 9. What a difference 2 games makes.
___

Okay, on to the game. Texans win 34-21.

Matt Schaub looked poised again, proving the Panther's defensive line may not be as good as what ESPN thinks. Our offensive line manhandled the Panther line, proving the Texans offensive line may have been much better than what ESPN thinks. And you know, what ESPN says, its truth. :/

My, my, our defense was great. Panthers fans were running around saying "zomg! Texans suck and our running backs will run all over your crappy players! RAWR!". This wasn't the case, the same Panther running backs that dominated the Rams didn't even get 70 yards against the Texans.

The Texans fell behind quickly, as did many Texans teams did in the past. But this time it was different. There's a different mindset in place now. We have the mind of a winner, and the city of Houston realizes that now after the win. After the initial 14 points by passes from Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith, the Texans rallied to score 34 unanswered. Both the consecutive points and the point total are now team records.

When asked what happened to the Panthers, Dan Morgan replied, "I don't know." Exactly. No one knows what this team is capable of. Maybe even, beating the Colts.

Firefox comes with a built in spell checker; as do most email clients. Hope that helps...

New Post:
Okay, let's face it. We weren't up to match up against the Colts. We had 2 of our key players out to injury, and 4 more got hurt along the way. The most dangerous and scariest injury was that of Cedric Killings. While trying to make a block, a helmet to helmet collision caused him to break invertibrae. He was mostly motionless for a few minutes, only holding his left hand up at the very start of the scare. He first complained he couldn't feel "down there", but later he showed he could move all extremities. He should be able to walk out of Methodist Hospital later this week, thank God. Jacoby Jones, rookie sensation out of Lane college, was hurt on a dazzling punt return that would have easily been converted into points if Schaub had not thrown such an ill-advised ball into triple coverage. With Ron Dayne out and with the loss of Ahman Green on the 2nd series, Samkon Gado and Jameel Cook were left with the running duties. When it became apparent the running game wouldn't be successful, we turned to the air. Schaub had 2 interceptions today, the first was a tipped ball turned pick. The 2nd, however, was one of the worst balls I've seen thrown in the past few years. He attempted to force a throw, but one of the 3 people covering came up with the pick. The second to last drive was the most impressive, but was too time consuming to have a realistic chance at a comeback. Matt Schaub ended the game with 14 consecutive completions, a touchdown and 236 yards. He also had two interceptions. Just to show you how bad our running attack was yesterday, our leading rusher was Jameel Cook, with a whopping 15 yards.

Our defense showed they could keep up a top 2 offense, dispite allowing a season high 30 points. Our run defense remained stout. Indy only had 92 yards rushing on 29 carries, with Addai only running for 72 of those yards. Our pass defense was a different story. Though Manning only had 273 yards passing (that's low for him...), and only 1 touchdown, our defensive backs were picked on all day. Mainly the matchup between Faggins vs. Whoever he was matched up against. He gave the Colts receivers 15 yard cushions all game, and they continued to pick on him all game. We would hold the Colts to 3rd down, but Faggins' cussions gave them a first down every time. At one point the Colts were 6-6 on 3rd down conversions. That's ridiculous. Our pass defense needs to be fixed fast.

Still the game was remarkably close. The Texans were down 27-10 one moment, the next they were down 24-30. This was all without Andre Johnson, Ahman Green, Ron "Colt Killer" Dayne, and many others. Jacoby Jones and Steve McKinney were hurt later in the game. What I like about this team is that we never give up. And even though moral victories are not welcome in the the Texans' lockeroom, you can't help but give them a pat on the back. They showed heart. Speaking of heart, can you imagine how loud it was in Reliant? From inside the stadium, you could tell it was loud with everyone in the stands yelling, but on the television (saw the game on NFL Replay) it's one of the loudest I've heard a stadium in a very long time. Hopefully we can keep it up as fans.

Next up, the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Schaub's homecoming.
