I am not new to the forum, but I have just begun posting here. I remember reading a thread a few weeks ago that stated Okoye has already been labeled a bust by "experts" in the know. I wondered how he could be labeled a bust considering he has never played in a game. I also wondered how Kubiak could have such a player ranked as his #1 defensive player in the draft. I am no expert, but Amobi Okoye looks like a monster to me. How many 20 yr olds can do what he did Sunday?
I was one of the many who questioned the Mario Williams pick last year ( I am susceptible to hype just as much as the next person). However, I watched Mario every game last year and believed that he was a slow defensive end with no explosive power. This year he is showing me something entirely different ( maybe he really was injured last year ). I guess my point is that with all the media outlets and talking heads you can find an opinion on every issue and they are all trying to look like experts. I for one will try to judge less by what the experts are saying and more by what is actually happening on the field. |

Here is the thread that I was talking about...
There's already talk in league circles that defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, the No. 10 overall pick in the draft, could be a bust. The 20-year-old rookie from Louisville received plenty of hype in the run up to the draft. But the opinion of some is that he is undersized and not strong. As one source said, he's the "creation of a good P.R. campaign," and "there's no way he's a first-round pick." Okoye already has been overshadowed in training camp and the preseason by Rams nose tackle Adam Carriker, the 13th overall selection. Carriker appears to be poised to make an instant impact at this level. In our view, the biggest red flag regarding Okoye was raised when his college coach, Bobby Petrino, drafted defensive end Jamaal Anderson instead of Okoye. If Petrino, who had prior NFL experience, believed that Okoye could excel as a pro, Petrino surely would have taken the known commodity over the unknown quantity. If Okoye falters, he'll be the third first-round pick on the Texans defensive line that has underachieved, including defensive tackle Travis Johnson and defensive end Mario Williams |

Don't believe the hype, believe your eyes.
Okoye is a young man who is making some plays. Marion is also a young man making some plays. Both guys will have adjustments, have bad days and make mistakes on occasion but they will both get better as the year and their careers go on.

People will have doubts..he was drafted at 19 which is unheard of outside of the other 3 major sports.(now 20)
All I can say if Okoye can play like he played on a semi-regular basis this season, then go through an offseason with the Texans ..grow more (he is still growing) ... wow. holy justice league ..Batman and Robin (williams and Demeco) and pick a name for okoye , this will be a great defense to watch BTW, I am tired and blurting out nonsense, not naming the defense

Dude, we let people stay here for five years before we label them a bust. Okoye isn't in any danger of being a bust just yet.

I agree 100%...it looks to me like he will be a force to be reckoned with for a long time. My point is that people are too quick to judge a young player ( labeling them busts ). In this case, he was being labeled a bust before ever taking a regular season snap. Well, at least Kubiak doesn't listen to these "experts". |

Dont worry abut labels. There are far to many websites, blogs, sports shows and sprting mags to listen top what the so called experts say. Take a good look at just how much air time and page space needs to be filled these days with the constant coverage. I am constantly amazed at all of the new "experts" that are paraded out on NFLN, ESPN, FOX Sports, Fox NFL sunday etc. It amazing how many people are put there these days pretending to know what the hell they are talking about.
Someone mentioned it the other day, the only real expert has left this earth and that was joel buschbaum!

True. But next year we will draft another end and make it completely solidified.

I'm pretty sure they will be more than scary enough this year IMHO.

I was at a viewing party for the Texans/Panthers game and when the Panthers went up 14-0 a person who shall remain nameless screamed out, "Put in Sage!!".
I told the person in question how very foolish he/she sounded and I guess you know what happened next. I really get tired of people rushing to an opinion that makes Houston fans, as a whole, look silly. The title of this thread sickens me. WE ARE 2-0 people!

To both sides: it's two friggin' games, people. Media "rumors" and "whispers" columns tend to be nothing but spoons to stir up big pots of frothy fan-slobber. I couldn't give a rat's backside about what some "unnamed source" or "NFL circle" is whispering about Amobi Okoye. I care what he does on Sunday, so right now I'm happy about it. In two more games, I might be upset about it, if he starts to regress. Even if I rant or rave about him, the difference is that I don't get paid for my opinion. Professionals should know better. But then again, as long as we keep clicking on it, they'll keep posting it. |

I think the title is inreferrance to in preseason someone started a thread about Okoye being a bust and nothing was seen from him. You know how somepeople are the have the mind and attention span of espin so when they do not see highlights every 15 seconds they think someone is a bust. The mindset of the American culture is now instant gratification and have to see highlights or they think someone is a bust. Kinda sad really.
