People talk about strength of schedule (and I know what it means) I listened to a Mack Brown interview on the radio before the season started and they were asking him about the North Texas game.. And he said they decided to play them a few years ago and then he talked about how that program(N.T.) is getting better etc etc..
My question is (for you college gurus) ,if this is true, and you set up matchups years in advance(non conferences). How is one supposed to know what the strength of schedule's going to be? Seems to be a **** shoot and you are basing your "BCS rankings" on how well a coach develops his team and that goes with your non conference and conference teams. How much politics are involved in say the Big 12 (or any conference)? Say Baylor and Texas are recruiting a player, yet Texas has 8 blue chip players in their sights and Baylor is a struggling team. Does Texas let a blue chip slide (being they have enough) so that Baylor can be competitive so they might win a game or two more so that affects the strength of schedule? We had a discussion at work about that and I have no idea..

Well, since UH and SMU were the first to let blacks play in the SWC, there are a lot of politics going around. How else was it that Baylor got into the Big 12? Politics. Good ole boy system and all have helped many schools succeed.
As for recruiting, you get the best players you can....no matter what the scenario. Blue chips do not mean anything....sort of like 1st round draft picks...50/50. Stoops' first powerhouse team was full of players that were "lower-level" HS players...1 & 2 stars..not the 4&5 stars. Its all in the coaching and how much you can get out of the players. Mack Brown has constantly had top 5 ranked recruiting classes, yet he has always had trouble transferring that talent on the field.....coaching or players??

So it is a crapshoot then.. BCS goes by strength of schedule. Well 5 years is a long way a whole team can change in just 2 given some players leave as juniors.. I guess that is why Colleges are leaving/joining other conferences

it always amazes me that guys who have either coached, played aor followed college football for years talk about teams scheduling as though the coaches call up a school on Monday morning say, " hey come on down Saturday. i see that you guys suck this year. we will give a big paycheck for the trouble" |

Ann Richards was a Baylor Bear first....Democrat second. It was a Baylor Bear that killed UH chance at the Big12.
Besides, have you ever taken a look at the Texas Political situation? Not much to be proud of....and I am not talking about the Dem/Rep situation a while back. Democrat? What do I care if she was a democrat? I am not one....so what was the implication there?? Quote:

You figure it out
Say Texas needs an opponent.......for arguments sake lets say they can schedule Miami (or any team with a winning tradition) or N.Texas. Wonder why they would schedule N.Texas instead? Never can tell who will be the power house in five years...yeah right. Mack can whine his way into the BCS. Strength of schedule doesn't count....gimme a break. Strength of schedule does add up to Ws and Ls which I believe does count. No, I'm not a fan of any big twelve team.

Ogre,
Just because you like Rap music and eating Cornbread and Fried Chicken does that make you Black?? Or what if you like drinking and fighting, are you Irish? I know those are blatant stereotypes but.. Just because I may say or believe in ways that most liberals or democrats follow, I am not necessarily a Democrat. When I vote, party affiliation is furthest from my mind...the issues are the focus, no matter who it is.
