Boulware Starting?

Sorry if this has been posted already guys.

I was just wondering if we know yet weather Michael Boulware is going to be starting, or have we just brought him in for some depth purposes?

He will be starting once he learns the nomenclature and system. Until then he will mostly play special teams. Akin to Marlon McCree sitting 2-3 weeks before starting.

Right now, it sounds like Jason Simmons starts with Boulware brought in for spot duty until he learns the defense. Boulware might be starting next week.

But I haven't heard any recent updates. Boulware was really hitting the books and working with Hoke a couple of days ago to get everything down as quickly as possible. So it's possible that he starts.

I don't think he starts this week - but the sooner we see him start, the better I will feel about this pick-up. The Texans front office took a chance with this trade. Sure - Babin would probably be nothing more than a situational pass rusher for this team. However, he was the sack leader last year and all indications were that he had made more improvements this offseason. Boulware, on the other hand, got beat out by rookies and free agents for his spot.

It is hard to argue with Smith's track record of picking-up players, but make no mistake about it - Boulware is going to have to earn his spot on the field. The coaches and front office aren't going to cover their behinds by putting a guy on the field that isn't an upgrade.

sack leader I can agree with, but we aren't talking about dwight freeney or jason taylor here.. I liked Babin ,but 5 sacks....we can do better or we better if we want to be an elite team in the afc

If he's better then the guy in front of him, put him on the field. Playing cover 2 is not rocket science. Stand here, if anyone comes through this area, follow them.

boulware's specialty is against the run, right?

Yes. He is a converted college LBer who is playing S in the pros, so he is more comfortable in run support and delivering big blows than he is in coverage.

Think Roy Williams for the Cowboys. A play-maker in the box, but a serious liability in deep coverage. Teams will look to try to use motion and the slot receiver to place him in deep cover responsibility.

Let's hope we can roll help his way and design ways to have him in the box a bunch in order to give him a chance to make plays and create havoc.

How about next year we use Boulware as a WLB and get rid of Greenwood.

In on of 610's "sports falshes" there was some audio of Kubiak about Boulware. Kubes made it sound like Boulware was picking things up at a good pace.

I wouldn't be shocked if Boulware sees a good 20 snaps on D this weekend.

There is not any real risk in this trade. Babin would have been on the field for maybe 20 plays a game right, and we traded for a full time player (60 plays a game) on defense who regardless of his struggles in Seattle is an instant upgrade to what we were going to put on the field before he got here. As far as I am concerned we are already a leg up considering we added a full time player for a part time one.
The next thing that you are failing to look at is what is the potential drop off from Jason Babin to Shantee Orr? I say not much if any at all. Orr looks to me like the kind of player that can consitantly get pressure on the QB. He did it in the 3-4 and if the Cowboy game is any indication(albiet a small sample size) to what he can give us as an end, then we are in good shape.

And of course Boulware will have to earn his spot on the field, how is that any different than any other player that is on the field for our team?

As far as I can see this is a no brainer win/win.

Folks are seriously overstating his coverage issues. Not saying he is a ball hawk but dude has some skills that were obvious on film his first two seasons--don't know what happened to him last year.

First two years--not including post-season such as Boulware's SB INT:
