I think you sub him in all game long. He will allow us to have fresh legs throughout the game while getting his feet wet in our system.
He will be pumped. I feel for the Chefs.

No, if he doesn't know the scheme. Complain about CC all you want, but he'd still be a lot better than someone running around with his thumb up his butt.

Take this week to teach him a few sets really really well and put him in on those. Don't ask too much of him too soon.
Now, if he picks it all up really quickly then all bets are off.

I think he should play and show the Chiefs what he is made out of and send a very stong message to every team in the NFL.

I do not think he should start but substituting during the day and maybe insert him on a few blitz plays, only a few because it will become known as a blitz.
This way he gets slowly acclimated to the defensive scheme, plays and terminology.

Too early. IT's going to take him a little bit to get up to speed. And he won't even be a Texan for a week when this game hits.
A mediocre player who knows what the plays are >>> a good player who doesn't know what is going on. |

Its not like the guy has never played before. It's a matter of associating terms we use with terms he is use to. Not like we're asking him to play ShortStop for the Astros.
How much worse could it possibly be than what we had back there before?

I would say stick to blitz and obvious run downs scattered throughout the game, will keep both guys fresh and give us a idea of his readiness in a less dangerous enviroment. Ofcourse the chiefs could allways audible out of anything they were doing anyway. But I would take it slow and let him get his feet wet a little at a time.

A saties duties aren't as complex as other positions, he should def. get a significant amount of playing time, he know's how to play the position. I say kubiak should keep him on basic saftey assignments if he does not yet know the defensive plays.

Years ago we had lousy safety play in the form of Matt Stevens and Eric Brown. The real problem was Stevens (Brown wasn't anything special but Stevens was truly terrible) and when Marlon McCree got waived by Jacksonville we grabbed him in a heartbeat. Of course we let him go a year later out of shocking stupidity but that's another story.
If memory serves he did not play the following week and only got in on a few plays the week after. As bad as our situation was (And Matt Stevens was worse than anybody we have on our roster today. He makes CC Brown look like Ronnie Lott) we didn't throw him in. This is a new coaching staff but I doubt seriously that Boulware sees any playing time against K.C. They could surprise me but I just don't think so. It's not like Boulware is this wily veteran who can play his position blindfolded in any system. He's a converted linebacker whose got three years under his belt in the secondary. He sits and learns. If he's as motivated as he's appeared to be then he'll be in there soon enough.

Depends how well he progresses. I don't like the idea of sending him out there and basically telling him "have fun!", but he needs to see the field somehow. He needs to get put in when there are situations where he can benefit and just go make plays.
