Default No End in Sight: Texans Dream of Parity in Houston

http://beta.bleacherreport.com/artic...ity_in_Houston

I need to bookmark this page, so I can comeback to this later.

Quote:
The 6-10 Houston Texans (6-11 if you count their loss on Draft Day) are NFL rarities.

Sure, they're unique in their aversion to pass blocking, their historical lack of a running game, and their being able to sweep the Jaguars while getting swept by the Titans.

The true one-of-a-kind stumper, though, is that the Texans are utterly untouched by NFL parity.

In their five years of existence, the team has never finished better than .500. A 7-9 year in 2004 is their best showing—which they followed up with a 2-14 flop.

In that same five-year span, every other team in the AFC save the Bills and Dolphins has reached the playoffs at least once.

The Texans aren't even close.

Much of the blame can be placed on several failed draft picks. David Carr was supposed to be the franchise quarterback. In drafting him, the Texans overlooked sure signs of NFL trouble—his sidearm throwing motion and flagrant metrosexuality—in favor of hype, potential, and the way Carr tore up the WAC in college.

Carr's demise in Houston epitomizes the performances of highly-touted underachievers up and down the Texans roster. First-round pick DT Travis Johnson is competing for a starting spot; CB Dunta Robinson is solid but unspectacular.

And don’t even get me started on Mario Williams.

Of course, the team's unlucky placement in the AFC South hasn’t helped. In the last five years, the Titans, Jaguars, and Colts have all enjoyed stretches of greatness.

Bah...get that nonsense outta here.

I will continue to drink my kool-aid and sip my lemonade. We will go 10 and 6, make the playoffs, and no one will ever think about doubting Mario Williams again.

I am amazed at his Titans prediction..talks about Pac man and what he meant to a defense and VY with his "curse" ,needs to improve on his completion percentage, and no WR's to help VY. yet team finishes a predicted 7-9 .

guess, blogging to just blog

Ok, would someone be kind enough to point out the "stretch of greatness" that Jacksonville has enjoyed "sometime" in the past 5 years. I must have missed it. I might have blinked or something.

I'm not going to bother to read it. I didn't read the first article you posted...I don't want to hear that negatvie stuff about our team until we start losing. He probably doesn't make any good points, but I don't want to read a negative article before the KC game and be like "Oh man...that's a good point."

I just want to sip my kool aid and think we're going to win the superbowl lol. I'll be thinking that until we prove otherwise that we can't.

Until we do something on the field, no matter how lazy and misguided the writers of these articles are, not very much for the Texans to stand their ground on.

When did the Jaguars and Titans show visions of greatness? When the Jags went 12-4 a few years ago with the easiest schedule in the NFL? When the Titans went 8-8 last season?

I can't take any writer seriously who uses the term "flagrant metrosexuality" to describe a QB's shortcomings. It turns his editorial into a personal vendetta with the obvious insulting implications, and takes away from anything meaningful he is trying to convey.

It's kind of a stupid premise to begin with that an expansion team did not make the playoffs in the first five seasons, considering we had one of the toughest expansion deals in league history, so therefore we are "untouched by parity" (whatever that's supposed to mean). Coupled with a completely incompetent coaching staff and GM, and it's not much to be "stumped" by, IMHO.

The sad fact is that the Texans are the easiest target in the NFL. Hopefully that's about to change.
