Default Peter King is First on the Bandwagon

This from CNNSI.com. Welcome aboard Peter. Please move over and make room for the rest of your colleagues... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...mqb/index.html

3. I think the one great thing about August football games is this: Jacoby Jones, wide receiver, Lane College. The third-round pick of the Texans, a second-day draft prospect on many teams' boards, has morphed into an excellent complement to Andre Johnson and could be the receiver Houston has sought to deflect some of the attention from Johnson.

At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, and with average speed (4.48) for a split receiver, Jones has shown excellent hands in camp. The game's not too big for him. In three preseason outings, he has eight catches, one for a touchdown, and two more touchdowns in the return game.

Says Johnson: "He's awesome. Once he learns the ins and outs, the sky is the limit for him." And this from Jones: "I don't want to wake up. It's the kind of thing you have dreams of as a little boy, watching yourself playing on TV, and you're really doing it."

5. Matt Schaub. Saw only highlights of Texans-Cowboys, but I noticed one thing about Schaub: a presence that was sorely lacking at the quarterback position in Houston the last couple of years. Nothing against David Carr, but Schaub looks like he had a command of that team borne out of demonstrated ability.

Wow I think King is a bit of a blow hard with good connections but I am impressed that he picked up on thaat. I expected more talking heads to talk about how much the line has improved instead of acknowledging the change has more to to with the leader under center.

I think big kudoes goes to our talent evaluation team that found gems like Jones, Ryans, Spencer etc.....

I think that there will be a gradual stream of bandwagon jumpers if we get off to a positive start.

I think it will be funny to watch how many people in the media will claim to "have always liked the Texans" or "always had them as my dark horse" once we win a few more games than they predicted.

Has King ever seen Jacoby? There's nothing average about Jones' speed on the football field. Even the King of NFL gossip columnists would realize that had he watched Jacoby play.

He just sees the forty time.

We all know Jones is playing much faster due to his quickness and acceleration.

He gave us some positive rep and we should be happy. Beggers can't be choosers.

On our way back to Corpus from Houston on Sunday, my friend and I were hungry for any talk about the Texans/Cowboys game. Unfortunately, 610 had the home show on so we changed it before we fell asleep and found 790. It was a fantasy football show and the usual big names of football were most of the conversation, however, one of the guys said, "Get Jacoby Jones" He admitted that most people have no clue who he is, but to trust him and get him on your team.

Wasn't sure how to take it, but I was just glad someone was mentioning him cause ESPN elected to only show TO's touchdown in their highlights of the game. Luckily they finally woke up and made JJ's return #2 on the top 10.

I want to see if we get any more respect in the Monday Night Football halftime show. They still do highlights from the weekend don't they?

What do you think the rest of the nation reads?

They read hacks like King. They watch hacks like King. He gave us some good pub and we better like it.

Damn, we cry when we don't get good press and we cry when we do.

I drafted jacoby in the 18th round of an 18 round draft this weekend.

How many guys with "average" speed return 1 punt for a TD, much less 2 in 2 weeks??? THAT alone should tell ya the guy has some serious NFL extra gears.

Peter King wrote a snippet in one of his MMQB pieces that covered the Texans 2006 training camp. The way King told it Carr threw into double coverage and Kubiak jumped his case hard for making mistakes "that no five-year QB should be making". He noted how Kubiak was all over Carr and it wasn't pretty. King sorta hinted that Carr wasn't making the sort of progress that he expected with a teacher like Kubiak. He never came out and said Carr couldn't be turned around but he seemed surprised at how much teaching seemed to be necessary. So he's had an eye on the Texans at least since Kubiak came aboard. Maybe to see how he'd work out as the head guy after kinda being passed over.

I got him for $3 ner the end of my auction draft... I made it a point to keep a few bucks until everyone else was down to the point that they couldn't out bid me...
I also ended up with Calvin Johnson, and Adrian Peterson... nice potential, but that's really too many rookies for one roster...

We? Is there a mouse in your pocket? If you like to see writers spreading misinformation regarding your team, good for you. King admits to only watching Texan highlights in forming his opinions on the team. To me that's worthless, to you it's gold. Different strokes.

King even steals Kubiak's line of "The game's not too big for him." He didn't quote Kubiak. What a POS. There are national guys who give considered opinions that I value. King's not one of them.

There are two national guys that I know of who seem to really want to like the Texans - Berman and King. They haven't had much to talk about except losing play, but they still occasionally say something positive about the Texans and rarely ever say anything bad about them. It will be interesting to see their comments once we finally win consistently.

Man, I am SO glad Carr is gone. It was getting to the point where I couldn't even watch these guys anymore because of him. Your post brought back all that frustration I was feeling last year.

How could you forget the biggest Texan supporter of them all.......Michael Smith.

That is the only guy I listen to now in the national media. He has the ability to form his own opinions, right or wrong, they're still his opinions and not regurgitated crap.

I get less of a feeling that he wants to be a fan than I do that he is just trying to be an objective journalist (which I appreciate). Smith is definitely a good guy to pay attention to. King and Berman, to me, seem like they'll be just as subject to hyperbole in our favor, if we ever give them the opportunity to put it out there.
